Located between three universities and across from Vanderbilt's Hospital, this is a popular breakfast tradition. You'll know that you are there by the line wrapped around the restaurant. The pancakes are good--I've never had anything else. It was a little pricey, if I remember right--the price range above is for breakfast and a drink.

Pancake Pantry

Pancake pantry is a mandatory stop for our family with each trip to Nashville. The breakfast food has consistently been good and the variety is fabulous.

Plan on arriving as early as possible, especially on a Sunday morning. The line starts at the door and winds out and around the building. (Thank goodness for the pot of coffee that is for all the people in line.) We have waited in line for over 30 minutes even when the temperature was around 20 degrees. Its a popular place!

The restaurant resembles a 50's diner. The tables and chairs are very close together but there are booths around the perimeter. Don't be too choosy about a table. There are plenty of people in line who will take the next table, so be prepared to sit at whatever table is available when you're finally at the head of the line.

Just as you might expect, pancakes are the specialty. We try to order different ones each time we eat here so we can try the various options. There are just about every type of pancake that you can imagine, although the chocolate pancake is more like a dessert than a breakfast item. Everything we've eaten here has been very good and the servings are always more than enough for one person. There are other options on the menu, including some lunch items, but we stick with the pancakes!

Pancake Pantry has come to be one of the icons of the Nashville dining scene. Every year an award winner for best breakfast in the annual Best of Nashville competition put on by the Nashville Scene, you'll likely stand in line just for the opportunity to eat here (especially if you visit on a weekend morning from mid-morning on). If you want to get in quickly without a wait, the restaurant opens at 6 or 6:30 AM and is said to be a favorite of Garth Brooks when he's in town.

With a name like Pancake Pantry it's not difficult to figure out what they're known for but if you've visited more than once or twice, be adventurous and try something else. One of my favorites on their breakfast menu is a dish called "Chocolate Sin" it's crepes filled with whip cream and covered in chocolate and raspberry sauce that is extremely rich and extremely filling. If you're a chocoholic, you'll love it! The prices are cheap and the staff will take care of you just so long as you eat quickly and open up the table for those still in line. While you're visiting take a few minutes to check out the Hillsboro village shopping area around the restaurant, it's full of neat little shops...everything from coffee houses to antique stores...but the gem in the neighborhood is Pancake Pantry!
