Archie Moore's

Archie Moore's is a favorite for wings. My husband and I walk from Hamden into New Haven on a ritual luncheon date, chatting as we meander through the park on our way. Waiting for us is a welcome pub with TVs on, beer ready, and a friendly wait staff.

He enjoys the buffalo wings with extra blue cheese, and who wouldn't? I enjoy the veggie burger with fries. Again, who wouldn't?

If you're looking for a place to drink a pint and have a bite, this is it - honest food at a good price, friendly and raucous at times, and always a fun time!

This bar is a neighborhood delight. It's a bit small, but does have two separate seating areas in addition to the bar. There are several TV sets which show a variety of programs in this dimly lit restaurant. During happy hour there are free snacks and cheap beer. There is a surprisingly large menu with all types of sandwiches, and the burgers are excellent. If you're looking for an inexpensive dinner with a local atmosphere, this is the place. During breaks, Archie Moore's is filled with locals, professors, and older students. During the school year you can expect a mixed crowd. Oh, and the fries here are great! To get here, take Whitney Avenue away from Yale until you hit Willow, and turn right. The bar will be on the right several blocks down.
