It has been two days from my dining experience at the Sardine Factory, and I am still steaming. (which is more than I can say for the food). Initially the service was very attentive, but the servings were small, and the entrees where inedible. It tasted as if the entrees where left over from the day before, and the food was cold when it came to the table, (not quite what was advertised). Many people would go to this restaurant and be impressed by the ambiance, and service, however, serving bad food make makes this a bad restaurant. You can put lipstick on a pig.....

The abalone bisque was excellent. I had the grilled swordfish, and my husband had the specialty for the night, scallops. Both were really enjoyable. For desert, I had the creme brulee and it was wonderful.

Reservations are recommended many days in advance. Because of its popularity and location (right off of Cannery Row) people enjoy eating here.

I did not experience anything negative about the place. The food portions are excellent, the taste of the food was superb, and the waiters and waitresses were very professional.

A wonderful dining experience, with out-of-this world seafood and an extensive wine list! BUT(!) KNOW what you are getting into! This is a lovely wood and red velour walled place, BUT with MANY-many blue-haired folks. For a romantic week-end with your sweetie, this is totally perfect - World class cuisine and as good a wine list as I've ever seen! Enjoy your wonderful dinner, make a selection from the extensive wine list, then sit by the fire with your cognac afterward! But--If you are a tired, scuba diver, (who has dressed up specifically to come here), and you are famished--FORGET IT!! The service is attentive--Great when you want a lovely, private evening--but excessive when you are (really) starving. Even with reservations, you may have to wait 30-60 minutes for your table. Again, not a problem, on a romantic weekend trip, but a pain in the () if you are A tired and hungry SCUBA DIVER. Still--THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC!!

This place has the feel of an old time high class brothel with red carpet, red flocked wall paper and four sumptuous dining rooms. Seriously, I don't mean that in a bad way! The Cannery Row Room and the elevated Grill Room and bar are adorned with rich wood, soft leather with photographs, paintings and documents depicting the area's history. The Wine Celler Banquet room is especially fascinating with its 25-foot table and 16th-Century antiques. Speaking of wine, The Sardine Factory has an incredible 30,000 bottle wine list with 1,375 labels. Dining by candlelight near the fireplace in the Captain's room is a glowing experience. I especially like the glass covered Conservatory with its lush greenery and statue basking in the light of a huge chandelier. The food is always marvelous. Their Abalone Bisque is world famous. At intermezzo order the fresh fruit sorbet served in a gracefully carved ice swan. House specialties include swordfish with sun-dried tomato tapenade and seared Asian-spiced ahi tuna on oyster mushroom and soba noodles with soy-ginger sauce. Yum! Great desserts too, especially the tiramisu.
