Tidepools

Tidepools
Located at the Hyatt, this restaurant sits over a very large Koi pond. Most tables are along the water so you can watch the Koi fish swim around when you eat. The food was. . . . good. . . . It wasn’t bad. Was it worth the hype of going to THE restaurant to go to at the Hyatt. I think I could have done without going. I don’t’ regret going. I don’t’ think I’ll go back. Something we did once and it was a romantic dinner with my husband. Please understand that its not that it wasn’t a good meal. The customer service was very good. What I think you are paying for is the experience. Make sure you get a table by the water because I think that’s really the most unique part of the experience. I would put it down lower on my priority list. To place it in the right context, we went to Michael Mina’s the weekend before in San Francisco and had one of the most amazing food/restaurant experiences in my life. So its just not fair to compare. The prices are very high as to be expected and of course their specialty is their seafood.

Tidepools is in the Hyatt hotel in Poipu. Beautiful, fancy restaurant, very romantic atmosphere. The menu is fabulous, and the service is terrific. On weekends, you can hear the luau show, slightly muted. It all enhances the atmosphere. If Keoki's is borderline tacky, then Tidepools is the other end of the tropical decor ruler. Their house special Mai-Tai ain't bad either.

Located at the Hyatt Regency, the Tidepools is for the couple looking for that romantic evening. Situated on an island in a koi pond, the restaurant features open-air wooden shutters with flickering tiki torches outside to provide a soothing environment.

The menu is mainly seafood, with a couple of meat options. The food was prepared beautifully and tasted just as good. The service could use a bit of a touch up, though. I recommend making reservations a couple of days in advance if possible.

Tidepools is one of the restaurants located at the Hyatt Hotel. Pools and ponds with koi and waterfalls outside the thatched roofed restaurant were lovely. Before you have dinner, sit on the veranda and enjoy a sunset, stroll around the grounds--it is a beautiful location. Dinner was good, and the ambiance and location add to an overall elegant feeling.

Tidepools Restaurant

Tidepools restuarant is one of the dining options at the Hyatt hotel, which was not where we stayed... but after an evening visit, we vowed we'd return one day and stay here in style! The hotel is unbelievable, but I'll get to that in a moment.

The restaurant is really unique and beautiful, built around a complex of--you guessed it--pools of ocean water that are filled with koi, those huge goldfish you always see swimming around Buddhist temples. These fish do a never-ending circuit around the perimeter of the restaurant, and it's fun to watch them go by as you enjoy your meal.

The atmosphere is very romantic, with thatched roofs and secluded, semi-private tables with lots of space between them, dim lighting, and lots of candles and tiki torches. The food was phenomenal and there was lots of it--we had some kind of crab appetizer called something like "slipper crabs"--I can't recall the name exactly, but they were absolutely delicious! I had some sort of local fresh fish for a main dish, which was flavorful, interesting, and perfect. No complaints about Tidepools; the ambience, service and the food are terrific! The price is pretty high, but you do get what you pay for.

We walked through the grounds of the Hyatt hotel after dinner, and it's just ridiculously impressive. The main swimming pool is more like a water ride at a theme park--it has one of those "rivers" that snakes and twists under bridges and past trees and waterfalls. There are, of course, a few more pools, both fresh and sea water, and a long tiki torch-lit walking path that winds past all of them. The hotel lobby is suitably posh--all marble and polished wood with a very luxurious, tropical Hawaiian theme to it.

If you can afford it, try to stay here for a few nights--if the rooms are anything as nice as the grounds and lobby, you won't be disappointed!
