When you go to Bubba's you have to keep in mind where you are...This is Hawaii! There is more to Bubba's than just Hamburgers. During the Hurricane back in (I think it was 1991) the early 1990s. They were out of electricity for 3 weeks on the Island. So Bubba's gave away hamburgers for free as long as the meat lasted. Think about it. How many places here in the mainland have done that? Sure they were going to have to throw it out anyway, but they didn't just throw it. They cooked it up and told the locals (and tourists stranded there) to come and eat for free. That in itself is reason to go eat there. They are real people that care about the real people around them.
True they have a motto that says they cheat drunks, tourists, and attorneys. But you have to know the story behind that too. It was a fun motto. They were actually given a "cease and desist" by a lawyer in California saying that motto belonged to their client. So rather than fight a stupid law suite, they just changed it and added attorneys. In that way "cheating" the attorney too.
So sure the food is a hamburger but they are good people and honest (they just say they cheat people). In fact when we were there they suggested we didn't need the "extras" that cost extra...They said the tomatoes were only "so so" at that time. So don't buy them just go for the hamburger. We didn't buy them and we were quite happy with the food.
So the reality is...go there so you can say you did. I bought the hat with their motto on it and I wear it all the time. Even snow skiing in the winter.
OK, so I'm crazy, but I know good food and I love the ambiance of a good place.
