Ivar's Seafood Bar

This old standby in Seattle always pleases me. I like to get the standard Pacific True Cod fish-and-chips and eat it outside, where I can watch the ferries arrive and depart, watch seagulls catch french fries, and revel in the quintessential Seattle waterfront experience. I've loved this place since I was a child. It never disappoints. The fish is fresh and flaky, the chips are, well, chips, and they have plenty of tartar, ketchup, lemon juice, malt vinegar, or whatever else you like to slather on your fish and chips.

Keep Clam!

There are several locations of the Ivar’s chain. This Ivar’s is located near Pike Place market, right on the water. We did not go inside the restaurant, but ordered from the walk-up take-out stand. This menu was missing my favorite that the Northlake express stand offers -- an alder-smoked salmon plate. So I opted for their fish-n-chips, which is pretty good; their tartar sauce is very good. They have tables outside looking across at the ferry. The seagulls are all over the place because everyone eventually tosses them their leftovers – they can catch the fries in mid-air. It’s entertaining.
