We stopped in for lunch, and the waitress was wonderful. She explained things and even brought us a sample of a strange new food we'd never heard of, jicama. We had and appetizer of cactus fries (prickly pear cactus deep-fried, served with a black-bean vanilla sauce), which was delicious.

The menu was a mix of barbeque sandwiches, salads, and entrées. Buffalo is featured here. I had a buffalo steak salad that was grilled perfectly. The price was a little more for lunch than I expected, $46 for three people, with one appetizer, three entrées, and tip, but we were in old downtown Sedona, tourist heaven, so it was going to be more for a sit-down place. It was a nice place to eat, with good food that embodied the Sedona culture and lifestyle of the Southwest.

Silver Saddle Room at the Cowboy Club

The Silver Saddle Room at the Cowboy Club is an excellent upscale meal in Uptown Sedona. Located in the Cowboy Club Grille, the Room is just that, a room, so reservations are highly recommended. This is meant to be an adults-only, romantic experience. There are about 12 tables in the Silver Saddle Room. Most of them are cozy, suede-covered round booths, while others are small, intimate tables down the center of the room. The fireplace and dim lighting help create a soft, romantic feel. The decor is rustic and charming. Dress is dressy casual. Jeans are just fine here. The menu includes many unique dishes, such as cactus fries, rattlesnake skewers, and buffalo steaks. They also have traditional steakhouse fare for the non-adventurous types, plus salads, a couple of fresh seafood dishes and one vegetarian entrée. The night we dined there, we were treated to complimentary shrimp salsa - a new appetizer the chef was trying out that evening. We weren’t quite ready to try the buffalo, so we ordered the tenderloin filet and the aged New York strip. The steaks were delicious - tender and juicy. The service was fantastic. With so few tables, the servers were able to cater to our needs much faster. It was the perfect setting for an anniversary dinner.

We loved dining here. The reservations are recommended to avoid a long wait. The Buffalo burgers were great and the finer dining menu was great as well.

This is a fun place to eat, especially if you are an adventuresome diner. We went for lunch and didn't need reservations, but we were told that you definitely need reservations for dinner.

Because we wanted to be able to sample a variety of foods, we ordered three appetizers and our waitress was also kind enough to bring us a sample of their french-fried sweet potatoes -- they were delicious. We ordered buffalo brouchettes, battered and fried cactus strips and nachos. The buffalo was tender and tasty -- it doesn't taste like beef and it may be an acquired taste if you're expecting it to taste like beef. I really liked the flavor, but my husband thought it was just okay. We had similar reactions to the fried cactus strips -- I loved them. Again, it is hard to describe a food that is so different. They are firm yet juicy -- when I ate pickled cactus, I thought of okra, but fried cactus wasn't like fried okra at all. The flavor again is hard to compare because it is so unusual. The nachos were not unlike any other nachos at any other restaurant. We also ordered their special margaritas made with high-end liquors. These were not large drinks and were rather pricey, but they were worth it in taste -- very smooth!

The decor is what you would expect from a restaurant named the Cowboy Club -- puts you in mind of an old saloon, but a very upscale old saloon. At the bar, there is one stool that looks like a horse's patoot, complete with tail. There are pictures and memorabilia on the wall of the Southwest.

The service was good, but not great. Our waitress was very pleasant, but they were having computer problems while we were there. The food came out of very quickly, which was impressive.

Call early for reservations -- we called after lunch for dinner at 7pm and the only time still available was 5pm. Have the buffalo burger and cactus fries -- yummy. The local beer was great. There was not much for small children, though.
