Last Thursday, July 29, 2004, 6:30 PM, a group of us visiting and hiking in Sedona from Tucson went to the Airport Restaurant for dinner on reservations made a couple of months ago. Every Thursday is apparently "all you can eat king crab legs" at this facility. Per our reservation request, we were seated on the deck of the restaurant. We noticed that guests at several other tables had ordered the crab legs and were having trouble with hundreds to thousands of flies attacking their food on the plates and as they tried to eat it.
Several in our group proceeded to order the crab legs. Within minutes, these diners and their plates were attacked by huge swarms of these flies. Some of the plates had almost totally black food surfaces due to the number of flies. We asked two times to be moved indoors, but were refused and told that all the empty tables indoors were reserved. There were numerous empty tables and a bar with nearly all stools empty. There was NO ONE standing in the lobby waiting to be seated (i.e., not one person!). Finally, we were so disgusted and concerned about the health implications of what was happening that we got up and walked out. We were followed out by a woman who told us that "we can’t do that and that she was going to call the police." We proceeded to leave the facility.
