Genki Restaurant & Bar

Genki is in the Buckhead section of Atlanta which is noted for being the biggest 'scene' in the city. The restaurant caters to young professionals in the area, and I have rarely been there when it was not crowded. I was not a big fan of Japanese cuisine until a friend took me to Genki with its hip atmosphere and amazing food. The tables on the top floor are very close together reminding me of restaurants in New York. For the claustrophobic, however, there are tables both downstairs and outside. I actually prefer sitting on the deck when it is not too warm outside. The Genki menu offers a variety of choices though I would recommend a ''bowl'' for the hungry. You can choose one of three styles of ''bowls'' so that you may have either a stirfry, rice or broth noodle mixture to accompany toppings such as grilled shrimp or fish. The waiter or waitress who will probably have a hoop or two piercing at least one part of his/her body will happily explain how concocting a bowl works. If you are an outright sushi lover, however, do not despair! The sushi bar has a wide selection and can accomodate patrons who want a simple California roll or hard-core sushi eaters who are much more daring. We often order a couple of different rolls along with an appetizer or two (the Edamame is healthy and fun!---trust me.) to accompany dinner. Leave room if you can, however, for dessert. The chocolate covered crepes are out of this world. I really love all the food at this restaurant. The one negative, however, would have to be the parking. There is very limited space, and there is a valet parker. When I have arrived at Genki in a BMW Z3, the valet has had NO problem finding space for me. When I have arrived in the family Honda Civic, however, it is not uncommon for the valet to tell me (rudely) that the lot is full. I HATE that type of elitist attitude that is, unfortunately, a part of the Buckhead area (the cost of the ''scene'', right?). Still, the staff on the INSIDE is very nice, and the food is very good!
