Agatha's is a great place to go when you want something different. Appropriately located on Peachtree Street opposite the fabulous Fox Theater, Agatha's is a dinner theater in which the diners become cast members. When you enter the door, you will be assigned a name and table. There you will find a piece of paper detailing how you will contribute either a speaking part or a group activity to the night's performance as a whole. For the shy among you, don't worry. No one forces you to sing by yourself on the table (unless you really want to!).
The plays change periodically, but my husband and I were able to enjoy 'Death by Faxes' in August of 2000. This was performed by two actors who were wonderfully gifted (a unique attribute for dinner theater performers!) and very good at improv. We did not know what to expect when we sat at a table with twenty other people, but we found ourselves laughing in no time, enjoying the company (and reactions) of those around us.
The food was regular dinner theater fare---a choice of chicken, beef or fish (like on airplanes!!) but included in the price of a ticket (ticket prices vary according to day and time of performance seen but never exceed $50). The food isn't why you dine at Agatha's though you will also be served salad, soup, wine and dessert.
If you have even the tiniest bit of aspiring ACTOR aspirations, or you just want a hoot of a good time, I would suggest going to this restaurant. The novelty, good acting and witty scripts make it quite fun. If you don't like other people much and feel uncomfortable in group settings, either pass on Agatha's or, better yet, just get over it! Definitely not what you'd do every Friday night, a little mystery dinner theater shakes up a special event, makes for a fun date or contributes to a great time out with a group of friends.
FYI: A parking deck right by the theater will cost around $4.00.
