The Park Tavern is located on Piedmont Park. It has great patio dining with an awesome view of Midtown in a casual atmosphere. Even though this is certainly a nice place to eat, it isn't stuffy at all. For example, we dined with our son at the Tavern one afternoon, and he kicked a soccer ball around with a couple other kids in the grass while everyone else waited for the food. No one seemed to mind at all. Speaking of the food...
The American menu provides a broad range of choices. The Spinach, Crab and Lobster dip is a great starter, but my husband likes the beer-battered onion rings best. For your meal you may choose anything from a portobello mushroom sandwich to Atlantic Salmon with Georgia pecan rice to a fine cut of Angus beef. The Penne Pasta Florentine with shavings of Gouda cheese is always yummy, too.
The inside of the restaurant is a little more upscale than the patio with tablecloths and sparkling, tall windows. Weddings and other special events are often catered here, and the staff will go out of the way to help with larger groups---even lighting a fire in the stone fireplace outside to accommodate star gazers who want to keep warm in the winter. With that said, whether you dine inside or out, don't expect the service to be especially fast. They always seem a bit overwhelmed to me.
My best suggestion is to order a bottle of wine (or a pitcher some of the beers brewed on the premises) and gaze across the park while you wait for dinner. You'll be rewarded with a nice meal, nice atmosphere, and reasonable bill.
Enjoy!
