Bait and Switch?

After reading the good reviews and seeing the adds for the nightly specials, we looked forward to "Prime Rib Tuesday". The special was supposed to run until 10:00. We arrived about 7:40 and were seated right away, unheard of for this week of usually 20-30 minute waits, even though tourism is down. When the waitress came to take our drink order I asked my husband if he was ready to order since we were here for the prime rib, he said he still wanted to look at the menu - so the waitress knew our intent before we ordered drinks. When we did order the prime rib, a couple of minutes later she said the were out, so now I had to spend more time and look at the menu. I was actually upset that no one said anything when we walked in nor when we were seated and contemplated leaving, but it was a long day and that's probably what they counted on. Someone on this post had mentioned the potato skins and that's what my 11 year old daughter ordered for dinner. Skimpiest ones we have ever seen. More like potato wedges with some cheese on top. I had a flat steak ordered medium rare with potatoes that was done rare and came with fries - no one ever came back to the table for me to correct the order so I ate it. My husband can't remember what he ate there thre nights ago, though he remembers what he ate everwhere else. For a family of three our dinners have been averaging us $50. This dinner was over that, even though my daughter only ordered an appetizer instead of an entree. We felt had and won't go back.

We had a wonderful, inexpensive breakfast here on a nice, cool morning.

A little tip about parking on Front St. Park on the street if at all possible. The parking lots around the area can cost $5 and up for just a couple hours. I did notice that it was harder to find a spot at night, but in the morning…it was a cinch!

On to the food. Moose’s is more of a bar/restaurant typr of place, but the food is very inexpensive, (especially for Hawaii) yummy and the service was pretty good too.

We arrived about 9am and got a table on the balcony, overlooking Front St. We were on vacation, so Bloody Mary’s were in the mix to get our day started and they were BIG at Moose’s.

Hubby had the Hawaiian style omelette filled with ham, island style fried rice, Portuguese sausage and cheese and served with a side of potatoes. Really yummy. I really like the Portuguese sausage.

I had my standard…eggs benedict and they didn’t disappoint at all.

We decided to visit this place again before we leave this island, perhaps for lunch or at least Happy Hour. They have great drink specials ($3 cocktails and beer) 7 days a week from 4-7 pm.
They also have flat screen TVs to watch the game on.

There are locations on Maui, Waikiki and Kihei.

It was fun. We had a big group and the service was good and food was good. Good selection of mixed drinks and beer. It is a great stop after shopping in Lahaina for for a casual drink at the end of the day.

I don’t know about your family, but when we haven’t eaten decently in awhile, we’re not very fun to be around. We were pretty snippy with each other after the 6-hour flight from Phoenix to Maui with nothing to eat but snack food (Thanks, ATA). So even before we checked in at the hotel for our first night on Maui we drove down Front Street in Lahaina looking for a place to eat and get back on an even keel. I’d read decent reviews of Moose McGillicuddy’s and knew my picky-eater son would be able to find something to eat here.

I was craving vegetables and ordered the Fajita Salad. The fajita-seasoned chicken topping the salad was excellent. The salad itself was just ok, even though it contained some of my favorite salad ingredients: romaine lettuce, corn, black beans, and crushed tortilla chips.

My daughter ordered the Oriental Salad Wrap. It was very flavorful and fresh tasting. A little too much celery, though.

My husband’s Shrimp Fettuccini was "pretty good; not excellent." My son chose the Enchiladas. His assessment was that the enchiladas were good, but two weren’t enough. Since he doesn’t like Spanish rice or black beans, which were served on the side, I can understand his point. Two little enchiladas don’t fill a hungry 15-year-old boy!

This restaurant offers a variety of foods. Since I live in San Antonio, Texas I was beginning to miss my good ole Mexican food. We had a couple and had a Mexican meal for two that ended up costing a total of about $15 with iced tea for drinks. The food was delicious. In fact, I liked their version of fajitas better than any restaurant in San Antonio. A laid back bar/pub/grill.
