This is an upscale Hawaiian chain that has expanded to the US. We didn’t go while we were in Hawaii, but have dined at Roy’s in Chicago and in Las Vegas. The food is amazing. It's Hawaiian, which I would describe as heavily influenced by Asian cuisines, but some other cultures as well. There are lots of seafood options and red meat entrees are offered as well. We’ve tried many items on the menu and have never been disappointed. Unless you have easy access to another Roy’s restaurant while at home, I’d highly recommend dining there while in Maui.

This was our favorite meal. They say the food is Asian fusion, but it really is a nice steak/seafood place. The difference is the flavors they use to prepare the meals. With fruits, teryaki, wine, or glazes, the food is very flavorful. I had a steak in a demi-glace sauce that was delicious. My wife had some chicken in a teryaki sauce that was juicy as it was tender. They have an extensive wine list, great salads, appetizers (I recommend the pot stickers--they were fantastic), and desserts. The decour is dark, with candles, and there were fine works of art from local artists on the walls. Everything was top-notch.

Roy's Nicolina, Napili which was absolutely phenomenal, extremely fresh ingredients blended to perfection. Roy's has an extensive wine cellar and the desserts were fabulous, service was also excellent. The price was pretty steep 120 for dinner for my wife and I.

There are two Roy's next each other. The Nicolina is the casual one and the bar and grill is the fancier one. Or maybe I got them backwards? Both are excellent. I recommend the fish specials and the spareribs.

Roy's Kahana

Roy's Kahana

Roy's Kahana is one of two restaurants on Maui owned and run by Roy Yamaguchi, a chef famous as one of the originators of Pacific Rim Cuisine. The wonderful menu features mostly seafood, but prepared in unusual styles with fabulous sauces. Portions are large, so two can easily share an entree, especially if you are also ordering appetizers and/or salads. But you won't want to share dessert: my wife (the chocolate connoisseur) says that the chocolate souffle here is the best dessert she has ever eaten, and is worth a trip to Maui by itself! It consists of a cylindrical warm chocolate cake, and when you cut into it, the most delectible hot creamy chocolate sauce you have ever tasted comes running out.

Roy's a fun place even though it doesn't have a view of the ocean or mountains like some other Maui restaurants have.
