McGillans Old Ale House

  • April 30, 2005
  • Rated 5 of 5 by ravenb27 from New Haven, Connecticut
McGillans is the oldest pub in the city of Philadelphia. They have good drink prices and entertainment that spans from karaoke to Irish bands. The crowd is varied, although many patrons are from a college, as the city is packed with them.

Overall, it is a great place to grab a beer and take in some entertainment after a long day of sightseeing. The food is okay for bar food. The service is dependent on how busy the bar is. If you get there after 10pm, on most nights, you will have to order most of your drinks at the bar, even if you get a table.

McGillans Old Ale House

  • March 7, 2005

Established in 1860, McGillan's Old Ale House has soups starting from 99C and sandwiches from five bucks. True to its name, McGillan's offers a variety of beers--both popular ones and locally made. You can even get a beer sampler for $6.

The food is fresh and hearty, with large portions. Although it's not phenomenal, it's no greasy spoon either. This is the kind of place to take your best friend and hang out.
