It was the end of our trip around Dublin and we were about over restaurant food, but the Elephant and Castle was perfect for a quick, tasty and reasonably priced meal. Located in the temple bar area of the city it is close to Grafton Street shopping, Trinity College and the O'connell street bridge.

A group of us arrived in Dublin with no idea at all about where to eat, but chanced upon this restaurant as we walked through the busy Temple Bar area, little knowing that this restaurant is one of the most highly recommended in Dublin. Despite there being about 10 of us and not having reservations, we managed to get a table, although it was a bit of a squash.

The lunch menu offered an extensive choice: huge sandwiches and salads, hearty mains, and wonderful desserts. The waitress was friendly and helpful, going out of her way to accommodate our large group at short notice.

The food satisfied even the fussiest eater in our group, the French food snob, which is some achievement.

Dublin seems to have a growing number of restaurants, especially with a variety of world-cuisine choices. Gone is the day of just traditional Irish food in the "hip city." My friend and I love to go out for nice and drawn-out (not too upscale) dinners, where we eat, drink, and lolly over meal and talk. The food in many of the restaurants in Dublin made this difficult. The Elephant and Castle was the best dinner we had there. It certainly was not cheap at about $35 per person but a great place for our last dinner. Don’t expect a traditional restaurant, but it was packed with Dubliners.

FYI – The chicken wings are out of this world! Some of the best I have ever had. It is also right near a few pubs with live music, so save room at the end and stroll over for a Guinness after dinner.

The Elephant and Castle is a small restaurant located in the heart of Temple Bar offering the visitor a choice of tasty delights, ranging from good old-fashioned burgers to chicken wings and amazing omelets! But any visitor to this establishment MUST try their famous chicken wings.

For just 10€ for a very generous basket of wings, you'll feel like you've died and gone to gastronomic heaven. You can wash down your wings with bottles of beer or a glass of wine! The staff is friendly and service is fast and efficient. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 11:30pm; Saturday 10:30am to 11:30pm; Sunday noon to11:30pm. Main courses range from 8 to 22€. It is definitely well worth a visit!
