Best Meal of our Trip

Best Meal of our Trip

Our last dinner was at Picasso at the Bellagio. The restaurant faces the lake where you can see the fountains but sitting at ground level and at such close proximity, we discovered was not an ideal spot to watch. When we were outside or even across the street, the fountain show was much more spectacular since you saw the full effect. In any event, the food was our main entertainment.

One warning, the restaurant menu does not have a la carte. You chose either a five course degustation menu or a four course prix fixe. There are some additions, for an extra charge, also possible. One of our group was having trouble deciding between the two menus and was allowed to pick from both, although he was told never to tell anyone else.

Both the grandmothers protested that they could not eat so many courses and wanted to have only one item. They were talked into picking something from each course and if they were too full, not to eat it. In the end, they both ate every bite. We even managed to polish off the tray of small pastries that arrived after our dessert course was over.

The menu can be found at: http://www.bellagio.com/restaurants/picasso.aspx.

The wine list was the length of a Russian novel with a lot of items that would have required remortgaging our house in order to pay for them. It was an interesting read nonetheless and in the end, we found some not unreasonably priced bottles to order.

The dinner was incredibly delicious and the wait staff was some of the best -- efficient, charming, informative and entertaining. It was a great dining experience for everyone. As we left, the ladies were given cookies in a small box with a magnetic enclosure. It was a cute souvenir. We are now all trying to decide what we can use the box for.

The meal was very expensive: food was about $120 per person.

I was wondering about this restaurant for a long times with the mixed reviews. Some liked it and some hated it for the cost and/or food. I got the chance to dine here when I was visiting Vegas. It was wonderful. It is worth the price. It is located in Via Bellagio. You take a separated escalator down to the restaurant and go to the left.

When we walked in there, the maitre’d was standing there. She immediately said, "Mr. Knudson, your table for two is ready." I was impressed. She pulled out our chairs for us and put our napkins on our lap. Then our waiter delivered the menus, gave us a complimentary small course, and welcomed us too Picasso. You can choose between a four- or five-course menu. One is $90 and one is $100 a person, but they are very much worth the price. There was also a wine steward (not that the wines are very expensive). We chose what we wanted, with great service from the waiter.

The ambience was very nice. It was dark and had very high ceilings with expensive 10-foot paintings on the wall, huge pillars, flowers, and windows with draperies looking over the water show.

The first course came (we each shared each other’s meals to try different ones). I tried the poached oyster with caviar and the lobster salad, with very good presentation. They would always provide silverware. They gave two types of bread (raisin and white with fancy butter). For the second course, I had scallops and ragout. THE SCALLOPS HAD VERY GOOD PRESENTATION. For the third course, I had foi gras, also in a good presentation. For the entrée, I had the pigeon. It was surprisingly very good with the sauce he poured on it. The dessert was very rich and filling. The cake I had was rich and the ice cream was smooth (best I have ever had). This ice cream was 80% real ice cream, opposed to the normal 17% ice cream. You are stuffed after that.

They then bring you the bill with chocolates and pastries. I was stuffed. The waiter was very friendly. He even took our picture. It was flawless service. It is definitely worth your time.

A great disappointment. A two-star meal from a five-star restaurant. Service was inattentive and somewhat self-absorbed. Food was uninspired and uninteresting. Entree (filet mignon) was dry. I was in a group, and none of us were impressed. Definitely not recommended.

This was probably one of the best meals I have ever had. The rack of lamb was unbelievable. My husband was very skeptical about Picasso at first. He is very picky and not prone to trying new things. He loved it. The Picasso paintings on the walls and the fountains outside the windows made this a truly romantic experience. Chef Serrano is master.

Picasso is a place to go more for the ambiance than the food. Here I found myself surrounded by more than 20 Picasso paintings. After spending about two hours in the restaurant, I truly got to take in Picasso’s work -- an opportunity I would never have in a museum. Fresh flowers are everywhere, and the staff is extremely attentive. Vegetarians beware: there are not many options on the menu for you. The food is more exotic, and those not willing to experiment will probably leave disappointed. Regardless, the restaurant is quite spectacular.
