I am not even sure if they accept reservations, but our "20-minute wait" turned into an hour. That was fine, and it passed easily enough. The place was bustling! The food was worth the wait, and the prices were right (I think my combination plate of enchiladas was $7 and my sangria $5).

It was snowing outside, so we waited indoors by the fireplace.

Everything was delicious. I plan to eat here on every visit to Santa Fe.

Excellent Northern New Mexican cuisine at economic prices. The Shed is located just off the plaza in an old adobe hacienda which you enter through a courtyard. There was a fire burning in the small round corner fireplace in the foyer. The place was full even on a Wednesday night off season in November. The dining room was rustic and a bit noisy but the atmosphere was friendly and comforable. We had chicken enchiladas with green chilis which were served quickly and tasted delicious. The bill for two for dinner with drinks and tip (no dessert) was $41.59. This restaurant is a family institution in town and well worth all the praise it gets.

We went for lunch and although we had a wait we were given a light up pager. We were told we may have a half hour wait but within 10 minutes we were in and seated. We were immediately greeted at our table by a young man who took our drink order; I suggest the herbal ice tea. Our drinks were served within a minute and we were ready to order. A friendly young lady came and took our order. I ordered the Carne adovada, a must have and obviously a favorite because she replied good choice. My friend ordered a combination plate of New Mexican favorites. We received a basket of garlic french bread which is a Shed tradition. Our meals arrived shortly after and not only were they presented in an eye appealing manner, they were even better once we began to eat. My carne adovada plate consisted of pieces of lean pork roasted in a marinade of Shed red chile, garlic and oregano. You also get a red chile and cheese enchilada, pinto beans and posole. For the uninitiated, such as I, was posole is a Pueblo stew made with Nixtamal corn, which is like hominy, lean pork, coarse red chile, garlic and oregano. I found it to be very good. I must add that the chile is somewhat spicy, so, if you are someone who does not like a lot of spicy food you may have to bring along some tums but I still would recommend you give The Shed a try, it is well worth a little indigestion. :) The Shed also serves dinner and is a very popular spot during both times of the day but well worth it.

There are some pretty fancy resturaunts in Santa Fe: this is not one of them. But it is a GREAT place for some basic, and delcious New Mexican cuisine. This place is very famous, and hard to find since it's tucked away in the corner of an atrium at Palace Ave. It should be famous for its food. A friendly, quirky place with interesting murals painted on the walls. I remember several families there enjoying the New Mexican dishes like: Tacos, Burritos, and Enchiladas. (Sounds Mexican- but tastes NEW Mexican) Tasted very fresh and didn't make me feel like I was spending a lot of money. A must for Santa Fe.
