Pelican Inn is a little piece of Great Britian transported to the California Coast. The owners are former Brits who have fashioned an inn that looks like it was transported from Surrey, with its exposed timbers, low ceilings, and roaring fireplaces. Although we did not stay at Pelican, we did opt to enjoy lunch there after a morning of hiking at nearby Muir Woods. The menu is features many English items, and I opted for Shepherd's Pie. It was marvelous, arriving piping-hot, baked in its own dish. My less adventoursome niece chose a chicken Caesar salad, which she proclaimed as "the best I've ever had". We also enjoyed a hot apple crisp dessert. We were seated next to a crackling fireplace, a welcomed spot even in late July in chilly coastal California. The total bill for two entrees, dessert, and soft drinks was about $30, close to what you'd pay at the Muir Woods snack bar for far, far less quality. Pelican Inn has their own website if you want more information, including room rates.
