All things Czech at Cafe Prague, hence the name! Maybe I loved it because I am Czech, maybe I loved it because the people were so nice, but nothing matters except that I loved this place!!! Loved it loved it loved it. Now when I am craving Svickova (a Czech dish) all I have to do is fly 5 hours west rather than 8 hours east, hmmm not bad. And not only do they have Svickova, but Goulash and dumplings and fruit kolac. Ok, my mouth is watering. I suppose some of you are saying, "yuck, all I want is a hamburger," well they have those too. As well as sandwiches, wraps and salads. It's ALL there. Really it's lik an upscale diner WITH atmosphere. Pictures and paintings of Prague sights too for those of us whose heart yearn to revisit, or visit for the first time, Prague. Bonus - the owners are Czech...and so is the cook!

Cafe Prague is just far enough off Columbus Avenue to be rather quiet most of the time. I've spent plenty of afternoons sipping coffee and eating an apple strudel with whipped cream while reading a book I'd just purchased from City Lights. Besides coffee and pastries, Cafe Prague offers light fare, wine, a number of beers (including some Czech selections), and the chance to practice your Czech. A number of the employees are themselves Czech. Adding to the atmosphere are the images of Prague which cover the walls. If you've ever been to Prague, you undoubtedly understand how enchanting it is and why any reminder of it is welcome. If you're into Beat and spoken word poetry, Sunday evening is a great time to stop into Cafe Prague. The open mic is a chance to hear the politics and poetry of the city.
