Yamo, in 2004 changed hands from being a Thai cuisine to a Burmese cuisine run by two Burmese-Chinese women in this small, humble, counter seating only basically a
"hole in the wall" place in the inner Mission district. If you sit by the entrance, you may watch as she cooks the orders.
The food here is quite good, prices very low: appetizers are $3.50 with choices like
Samusas - wraps filled with fried curry spices and potatoes, spring rolls, egg rolls, potstickers. All of the other dishes are $5.25: salads - Tea Salad, Mango Salad, Chicken Salad, Noodle Soups, Chef Selections.
I came to try item # 10
Mango Chicken and item # 15
Yamo House Noodles - noodles mixed with fried garlic, with beef, chicken or pork. Another customer next to me at the counter also ordered Yamo House Noodles, but asked to have vegetables added also which looked even better. Other customers ordered salads, Yamo Cold Noodles, coconut juice $2.50.
The Mango Chicken was quite tasty, though spicy with the red chili pepper flakes. The Yamo House Noodles tasted too salty for me with a strong garlic flavor. The atmosphere is bare bones, service is decent, food quality very good, value for the money is high.
