Our favorite restaurant in Athens, much to the surprise of my carnivorous friends, turned out to be Eden Vegetarian Restaurant in the Plaka neighborhood. The Moussaka was unmatched for the rest of our trip, and all of our new staples, from tzatziki to hummus, were equally delicious. Most of the menu is organic, but we would have loved it either way.
The dining room is small enough to be intimate, and reminds me of a Parisian cafe, except that you're not so close as to knock elbows with your neighbor. The restaurant's location on a hill under the Acropolis is a really lively area for after-dinner wandering.
We didn’t go back for a second meal because we were on an unspoken mission to see at how many restaurants we could gorge ourselves, but we did look longingly at it several times as we walked by later in the week. I wish we'd returned.
