Skip the touristy and pricier restaurants on Ocean Drive that try to get you in the door with the promise of "half-price" entrees and try an authentically good place to eat.

One of Gloria Estafan's SoBe restaurants, Larios serves up reasonably priced Cuban food. Try the appetizer "pu-pu platter" for two, which has a great volume and variety of tasty Cuban favorites. We had meant to stop only for a snack, but were full enough to call it dinner.

You can eat outside al fresco on the street and watch the crowd go by, or inside at the fab bar and watch live music. Either way, try the mojitos -- yummy!

Lario's the well known eatery owned by Gloria Estefan. I have eaten there 3 times and all three times have been quite different. It is not consistent. The first experience was excellent! We had a cozy little table on the sidewalk the food was delicious I had a meat dish with rice/beans. If you are not familiar with Cuban or latin cusine ask the staff for help. The drinks were big and good.

The second experiece was not a pleasent, the table was the same but the chicken smelled old. It was late at night and that might be the reason for the leftover meat. The third time i returned was for a friend's b-day. We were a party of 15. We sat indoors, we had to wait 30 minutes because we were '5' minutes late for our reservation. They have a band playing and you can dance or have a drink while you are waiting. The food was good this time, I had the thin steak with rice and beans which was juicy! The waiters were nice and sand the birthday song in two languages. It's a fun place to eat and worth the visit while in S. Beach.

While I did not see Gloria Estefan (she owns the place) while I was dining, I did enjoy a very good Cuban meal at a very inexpensive price. And finding an inexpensive place to eat on South Beach takes some doing. If you like Cuban food then this is the place to eat while you are in Miami Beach.
