Carmelo's, an Austin favorite, has been around for as long as I have visited Austin (about 15 years). It is a quaint little Italian restaurant that is elegant, yet feels like a family run business. The atmosphere is relaxing, inviting, and romantic. The decor has aged like a fine wine and though you could date it around the late-seventies, the restaurant has the look and feel like it is the establishment of a proud family. The Italian food is always a nice change from all the Tex/Mex you encounter in the area. The staff was very nice and pleasing. The food was great. Bread with olive oil and fresh parmesan cheese to dip it in was placed on our table before dinner. This is Italian cuisine at its finest. I can not say enough about the service, it was a perfect balance of friendliness and efficient professionalism. You really felt pampered, but not rushed in the least. With the live traditional Italian music, the dim lighting, and the century old stone building, this is definitely one of the most romantic places in town.
