The Ritz-Carlton Chicago

We had brunch here. Quite delightful, overlooking the Chicago River. Not being an avid breakfast food lover, I had the lox and bagels with fresh orange juice, but most of the group indulged in the made-to-order omelets and mimosas. After the plane trip and subway ride into town, this really set the tone for our day of shopping til dropping.

The Weber Grill Restaurant

We have all grown up with the experience of the Weber corporation's backyard kettle grills, but now is your chance to experience fine dining cooked on charcoal grills by Weber's very own chefs. As you near the entrance the very large Weber grill parked in front will remind you exactly what they're known for. When you enter the front doors, you'll find a restaurant reminiscent of a very classy hunting lodge dining room. With wood paneling and vaulted ceilings and leather chairs and booths, the restaurant has a very warm inviting feeling. For a touch of humor, take a look around and notice the artwork that chronicles the barbecue grills place in American culture. From cartoons to photos, the art in itself is a bit of humor and history that the first time visitor might find enjoyable. Perusing the menu, you'll find a selection that includes steaks, sandwiches and practically anything else that can be thrown on the grill. I would highly recommend the London Broil (which unfortunately is only available on their lunch menu) or their prime rib french dip sandwich. If by the time you're finished with your meal you're still a bit hungry, take a look at their dessert list. Here I would recommend the turtle cheesecake which was absolutely magnificent with thick layers of caramel and fudge, a true chocolate lovers delight. Be aware that their menus do change between lunch and dinner; there is some overlap but some popular items are only available on one or the other. As you head home, if you're still looking for a memento of your visit, you'll find a gift counter with Weber barbecue sauces and tee shirts and other assorted knickknacks. If you love great food and grilling, this is a must eat at restaurant. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
