Giordano's Pizza

You must have Chicago stuffed pizza. Don't bother with anything else... and by far the best is Giordano's. With locations all over Chicago and in every suburb, you can't go very far without running into one.

We happened to find a brand new location 1/2 block from the Sears Tower (south side) and we stopped in for a late lunch. Full of photos of old Chicago, the dark woodsy decor with American-Italian influences was perfect for lunch. As soon as we walked in we could smell peppers and garlic, and our stomachs growled. We had pepperoni and mushroom pizza.

They make everything fresh from scratch, so it does take awhile to get your order, but it's worth it. Along with a bottomless soda glass, Giordano's is Chicago dining at its most authentic. Giordano's is way better than Gino's East and Rosotti's. Trust us, we tried them all.

Giordano's Pizza

Giordano's is a chain of pizza restaurants located all over Chicago. Prior to visiting Chicago, I had checked out the top pizza places near our hotel. Giordano's was in the top three on citysearch. We were not disappointed.

Visiting this particular location in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, we were greeted by a 30-minute wait. However, during the wait, we were able to:
- Go to the bar and order our drinks.
- Order our pizzas (only) at the counter. Since the "Famous Deep Dish Stuffed Pizzas" take 35-45 minutes to cook, we'd be waiting anyway!

The interior of the split-level restaurant is casual and family-oriented. Not only did the restaurant offer their famous pizzas (their thin-crust pizza is supposed to be excellent too), but an array of pastas, sandwiches, appetizers, and salads as well.

Once we were seated, a waiter came to take the rest of our order (a friend ordered a sandwich), and then our individual stuffed pizzas ($4.95 each + 50 cents for each additional topping) came out with the sandwich a few minutes later. The individual stuffed pizzas are a great deal, especially in a group of different tastes; however, they are only available during lunch hours (11-3).

The individual pizzas looked too big to finish, but all three of us finished every bite of ours - they were that good! Each stuffed pizza is about an inch thick, with lots of gooey mozzarella cheese and whatever ingredients you specified inside. There is a thin coating of marinara on the top of the pizza, but the cheese is definitely the main ingredient. I ordered pineapple and Canadian bacon (which came sliced, not cubed - the way I like it). The pizza seemed to get better and better with every bite.

Overall, excellent pizza. I can't imagine there being any better pizza in Chicago. And, if you want to Mail Order one to try it out - you can do that on their website!

If you like deep dish pizza, this is the way to go. The stuffed pizza at Giordano's is to die for. The pizza takes about 45 minutes to make, so when you get there, if it's busy (which it usually is), you can put in your order before you get a table.

It took us about 20 minutes to be seated and the pizza was brought out about a half an hour later. There were four guys and we ordered two medium stuffed pizzas and we had some left over.

If you're ever in Chicago, definitely visit this place.

Giordano's Pizza

We split a pepperoni/cheese stuffed pizza. They specialize in Chicago deep-dish pizza. It was surprising that we couldn't even finish a 12-inch pizza between the two of us. The pizza is so deep and filling, with lots of cheese and plenty of gravy. Definitely worth trying if you're in Chicago.

Giordano's in Downer's Grove

We couldn't visit Chicago and not get pizza.

We spent a lovely afternoon (well, there had been a tantrum or two but overall, lovely) visiting some suburbs to the west of the city and recieved a recommendation from a clerk at a bookstore that we should get pizza across the street at Giordano's - I should have gone back to thank him.

Giordano's is a chain - so apparently you don't have to be in Downer's Grove to have some of this great Chicago-style deep dish pizza. If you can imagine, the spinach and cheese was enjoyed by all of us, even the 6 year old. Though I couldn't get either of them to touch the oversized Greek salad, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I went to their website to get the address of the restaurant in Downers Grove and discovered that they will FedEx pizzas. Something to think about... http://www.giordanos.com/
