This was recommended as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Be prepared for food choices of hamburgers or hot dogs. There are grilled cheese sandwiches also. This is known for the drive-up atmosphere and the car hops that bring to food to your car. It is a flashback to the "Happy Days" age when, on a summer evening, the neighborhood is at the drive-in or cruising through the drive-in looking for friends. Don't go for the food, but enjoy the atmosphere.

This is the last of the old drive-ins with a "car hop" server. Don't expect to dine in. You eat in your car or at a picnic table in the summer time. Each Superdog, Superburger or Supercheesy (a cheese burger) comes nestled in its own bed of fries with a pickle and pickled green tomato. The shakes and malts are yummy too. I like the vanilla the best. It is a fun place and is open daily for lunch, dinner and late night. It is also very close to the end/start of the Chicago Forest Preserve bike trail so you could pig out then burn off the calories with a long bike ride. The relish is a unnatural shade of green, but delicious and mild.

Since this is the home of Vienna and Armour, you will find a "dog shop" (as in beef hot dog) in every single neighborhood.

Superdog is celebrating over 50 years of loading the little barkers in a 1950's theme (complete with car jockeys) that is original. My parents used to stop here on dates to share a malted. My husband and I did the same. Now our kids have to drive here for their fix!

WARNING: do not spill onions in your car, because it will smell for weeks like dirty underwear every time you get into the vehicle!

Menu prices are from $3.75-$8.25, and all the dogs come in their own cute little decorated box!
