As soon as I sat down at the restaurant, I was given a bowl of chips and salsa. Less then 5 minutes later, a very friendly waitress arrived and took my order. I orded the Chicken Fort Worth and four tortillas. The portions weren't as large as at other Mexican restaurants I've been to, but they were not small by any respects. The staff was very courteous as well as attentive. The atmosphere was quite nice, too, with the pepper in a Corona bottle and the walls decorated with scenes that ranged from inspiring to amusing. Highly recommended!

This is, by far, my favorite Mexican/Southwestern restaurant in the country. Every time I come to visit Boston, which is at least twice a year, I take a pilgrimage to this spicy food joint in bustling Harvard Square. I would call it a cafe/bar, because it is relaxing and casual and alcohol is a must.

This place has a young crowd, especially at the bar where it is always busy with Margarita drinkers and XX fans. The chips are always freshly made and he salsa is hot! You do not need reservations, however expect a 20 minute wait. And while you are waiting, wander across the cobblestone alley to Globe Bookstore for your travel/guidebook fix!

There are smoking and non (for faster seating, pick first available) sections. The menu is mostly mexican with some southwestern and creole items. There is a vegetarian section for all of us that do not eat meat.

The margaritas are excellent. The Golden Margarita (house) is $4.50 and the prices go up from there.

Appetizers include quesadillas, various dips like spicy queso and quacamole all around the $7 range.

If you do not fill up on the tasty tortillas chips and salsa, you can chose from a myriad selection of fajitas with chicken, steak, seafood or vegis.

Main dishes (around $12) are all over the spice spectrum from Chicken Santa Fe to Soft Tacos con Carne. All meals come with rice and beans or jambolaya. For my main course I had the Vegetarian Jambolaya ($6.95). Reminiscent of a spicy Paella and so good! Half boxed up for take away.

We couldn't even dare to attempt dessert and escaped with our take aways, so full that we promised we would never eat again.

A few notes: parking is a problem during peak hours (weekends and dinner time). There is a lot across the street but $$ are not posted. Try back roads but watch out for the one hour parking signs. Best to take the T in (red line) and walk the short distance to the restaurant.

Great place in Harvard Square for some cheap Mexican food and delicious margaritas! The Border (as it’s called by locals) is usually always busy – especially on the weekends, so be prepared to wait a while. During the school year you’ll find it filled with Harvard students. There’s an upstairs (loud) and a downstairs (quiet) as well as smoking and non-smoking. While you’re waiting for your table, you can sit at the bar (if you find a space) and try one of their margaritas – they’re really good and reasonably priced.

The menu consists of the typical burritos, enchiladas, fajitas etc. and you get complimentary nacho chips and salsa when you sit down. Meals are under $10, the portions are good, and the service is fast. It’s a really lively atmosphere so if you’re looking for a quiet, romantic restaurant, this wouldn’t be the place.
