Murray's Delicatessen

I've listed Murray's as a budget restaurant, because by Atlantis standards it is. This is a great place for Jewish deli food (and I'm from NY and pretty picky about that), sandwiches, and takeout appetizing. We ate here once for dinner and had corned beef and pastrami sandwiches for about the same price ($14) as you'd pay in NYC. They were quite good, but not as large as some restaurant reviews I read made them out to be- they really weren't big enough to share for a meal. Just as in NYC, the waiters quickly brought out a complimentary bowl of kosher style pickles, which they gladly refilled when my kids ate them up immediately. I thought side dish prices were high- a $6 knish! - but the matzoh ball soup (also $6) was big enough for two. The environment is casual, diner style and very family friendly. We returned to Murray's once for takeout lunch - my son wanted tuna salad (hard to find at the fast food lunch places at Atlantis) and a hard-boiled egg, which we took outside to eat. They sell salads and deli meat by weight at the takeout counter and it's one of the best deals around. We passed on returning for breakfast - the prices, though less than Atlantis buffets, seemed high for standard breakfast fare (most dishes like pancakes or an omelet were about $12).

This place is like a diner. They serve good food and huge sandwiches. It's one of the places here that is very family oriented -- this was one of the places Discovery Camp counselors brought the kids to eat.

Murray's Deli

Murray's Deli was recommended by some online sites I visited, and my husband spoke with a group vacationing at the resort who also recommended this place. We were quite disappointed. Maybe if we had ordered sandwiches we would have been more impressed. We ordered hamburgers. They were very good, and quite large, but nothing really special. The kids had grilled cheese sandwiches. My son doesn't like American Cheese and we asked specifically for Cheddar. It came with American and he was very unhappy. We sent it back. After everyone else at the table had finished their meals, my husband went in search of my son's grilled cheese sandwich. Earlier, he'd had to track someone down to deliver the root beer my son had ordered. Our waitress had disappeared! We finally received the sandwich, about 10 minutes after the rest of us had finished our meals. To their credit, they did take the sandwich off the tab. Service there was terrible. You can tell that a great majority of people who go to the Atlantis resort have a lot of money. This usually means that they also demand a high level of service. It was not to be found in any dining experience we had at this resort. Is it because gratuities are already included in the bills? At Murray's, there is a take-out area. I'd recommend trying that instead of a sit-down meal.

Murray's is set up like an old American diner. It is a good place to eat with your children, and we sampled the food there several times. It is located right on the Marina though there are no windows allowing you to view the boats while dining. The food is basic diner fare: hamburgers, sandwiches, chicken fingers. The club sandwiches are HUGE, though my son liked the $8 grilled cheese sandwiches the best.

Bottom Line: The food is decent at Murray's. Not great. Overpriced. But not by too much. The service is... well... typical for the Bahamas. Still, you don't need reservations. Alcohol is served. AND right next door there is the Jimmie's Ice Cream Parlor!!! Go buy a cone and sit at one of the outside tables while the ice cream melts in the golden sun all over your little one's fingers. Enjoy the sweet taste of vacation as you fantasize about owning the boats with their uniformed crews in the marina. OR maybe you do own one of those boats, and it's just me with the fantasy? Either way, life is good when one has a waffle cone.
