Stage Delicatessen

If you don't mind spending more than usual for a sandwich, then check out the Stage Deli. Located between 53rd and 54th Streets on Seventh Ave., the deli has been a local favorite for years.

Inside, the walls are adorned with photos and autographs of famous celebrities, and some not-so-famous celebrities, who have eaten there in the past. So, you sort of feel "special" knowing you're eating at the same place Corey Feldman once ate.

The menu is basically all sandwiches with some salads. If you do come here, I suggest getting a sandwich. Meat is piled high and too thick to eat at once (unless you gave a gargantuan mouth). There is even a full page of sandwiches with special celebrity names.

Usually the wait staff is friendly, but also very busy. On one occasion, my friends and I finished eating, but we sat there for another hour just talking while one of drank coffee. We were never asked to leave and only asked to see the dessert menu once.

I have found it best to go here for an early dinner or late lunch. Eating during prime times will often result in a long wait to be seated, and less friendly service.

Stage Deli, which has been around since the 1930's, is located in midtown Manhattan close to Carnegie Hall, and various theatre.

The menu features a variety of triple decker sandwiches named after celebrities, in addition to regular sandwiches and entrees such as stuffed cabbage dinners, cutlets, goulash and various chicken dishes. There are also breakfasts, salads and burgers.

The sandwiches are highly over-priced with an average cost of $12-15. Regular sandwiches are under $10.

The restaurant is quite crowded and the tables are very close together and there is always a line up. The best thing about the Stage Deli is the location.
