There are 2 great locations on both the East Side and West Side. We chose the East Side as it was conveniently located to Bloomingdale's and the movie theater we were going to after our meal.

We were running late and called to change our reservation and were pleasantly responded to with, "No problem, we'll see you when you get here." This courteous, friendly service continued upon our arrival and through dinner. Water glasses were repeatedly refilled and plates cleared promptly.

The restaurant is huge with 3 sectioned dining rooms and we walked and walked to reach our table in the secluded, less noisy back room in an elegant setting especially because of the lighting.

Instead of bread, the table is given Thai chips and peanut sauce, something a bit unique. Be prepared for spicy though - everything from the calamari salad to the fish entrees were quite spicy hot! There are several unique fish on the menu and even the specialty drinks were unusual. I ordered a chai tea with spiced rum and didn't realize it would be a hot drink and scalded my mouth.

This is a fine restaurant but not cheap!

If you don't mind spending a little more for your Southeastern Asian food for the sake of atmosphere, then you will like Rain. The atmosphere is very nice and it is a good place to impress a date. I would never order takeout from here because the food isn't any better than cheaper alternatives, but I do enjoy the dining experience. The bar area provides a nice place to hang out before dinner and the service is pretty good.

The food itself is quite nice, particularly if you don't eat Asian food all the time. You can get a nice combination of Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian. It is not the best you will find, but is always solid.

In an atmosphere that allows you to escape from New York to a Southeast Asian jungle for just a few hours, Rain offers what may be the city's best pan-Asian cuisine. My mouth waters at the thought of their duck fajitas, unlike anything you've ever tasted. I return to Rain on every visit to New York and never tire of it.
