Went here and did not want to leave it was a really good night out and cost no more than for instance the Hard Rock Cafe, have come back to London "singing its paises" and have recommended it to my friend's daughter who is going to New York in April can't remember how I found it but what a good find, all you have to do for the entertainment is put a few dollars in their bucket, but that's not compulsory.

Great Dining and Entertainment all in One!

We are from North Dakota and entertainment is sparse. When I found this diner online, I thought it would be a good place to check out and we were not disappointed at all! The food was basic diner fare, but it was pretty good, and I had the best mudslide. We had wanted to go for breakfast, but we were just a few minutes late, but again, it was a really diverse menu, and I don't think we could have made a bad choice. Just watching the waiter and waitresses do their jobs, and sing, and have so much fun with it made it an excellent dining adventure. If it weren't for the fact we wanted to explore more places, we would have ate every meal there.

Stop in and check it out, even if you just have dessert! You won't regret it.

Ellen's Stardust Diner

OK, Ellen's Stardust Diner is one of those places where you know the food is overpriced and it is pretty corny, but I go back every time I visit with my kids.

Ellen's is on the corner of 51st and Broadway in Times Square. It looks like a 50's diner. I think it might have been a 50's diner. The waiters and waitresses sing. They are all aspiring actors and singers and are usually really good. The last time I went, they sang two of my favorite Broadway songs. They encourage audience participation and donations for the waitstaff (they pass the hat). Little girls will especially like this place (if they like singing). They will also sing to you for your birthday, so you can embarass people this way. They are open from breakfast to dinner. Try it out.

It's a very entertaining place, the waitstaff are also performers. They sing and dance between freshening up your cup of coffee. They are much better performers than waiters or waitresses. Wait time is a bit longer than the usual, but it's worth it, you feel like you're in the midst of a show while you wait for your meal. The food leaves a bit to be desired. I suggest ordering something that is difficult to mess up. I ordered french toast and the egg was still raw. Overall, I'm glad to have gone, even with the food not being fabulous... it was a cheap show to watch.

Ellen's StarDust Diner

Ellen's StarDust Diner

On the way to a bus tour which met outside, I happened upon Ellen's StarDust Diner. I was truly excited by my unexpected find.

I arrived at the diner around 8:00am for breakfast, totally expecting just a standard diner. What I found instead was a 1950s themed diner complete with poodle skirts. The diner is furnished with old posters of 1950s beauty contestants for contests like Miss Subway. The seating is cushy red booths with silver subway poles sprinkled throughout the restaurant.

In addition to the costumes and interior design, all of the waitstaff took turns singing and performing throughout breakfast. Upon talking to our server, he reported that as an added bonus to his job the owner helped pay for singing and dancing lessons. Most of the staff is trying to make it big on the Great White Way and the owner supports their dreams while utilizing their undiscovered talent.

The atmosphere was full on fun with singers dancing between booths and crooning songs like Runaround Sue. Every so often the singers would pass a tip basket and you could donate to their singing/dancing fund.

In addition to the show, the food was good and reasonably priced. I had scrambled eggs and bacon which cost about $6. Another added benefit was there wasn't a wait and the server was quite attentive. I think both children and adults would really get a kick out of this place. All in all it was a great little place to happen upon by chance and a really unique way to spend breakfast.
