Good Food, Great Ambiance and Jazzzzz

We'd passed Blue Water Grill so many times. Also this time, when we walk to the Heartland Brewery for lunch. The heartland was crapped with people, so we had to find another restaurant in the area. My boyfriend said that we walked by a restaurant named the Blue Water Grill. We decided to try this restaurant. We were welcomed by a lady when we entered the restaurant. She asked us to take our coats. You can leave your coat at the front desk (reception of the restaurant). Another staff member brought us to our table. I was surprised by the many seating opportunities. Since we were only with the two of us, we were seated in the back against the wall. It was a good spot. It felted like a get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Union Square.

The waitress was very nice and gave us the menu. The menu has a large variety. If you are a fish eater, than this is the place. It has a mix of American and Asian fish, Oysters and Sushi. We both had the Salmon Burger ($16). Which included Cucumber Slaw, Shoe String Potatoes, and Five Spice BBQ Sauce. The salmon was delicious! We had a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc with our dish. As dessert we shared a vanilla crème brulée ($7). It was all very tasteful and a restaurant that we keep in mind! I definitely want to try diner some day.

Note: If you like Jazz; this restaurant has a Jazz room downstairs.

Sunday Brunch is a New York experience at this establishment. We had Bloody Marys at the bar as we waited for our table. The service was not great, but the food has a way of making up for that. I had the eggs Benedict. My friend had the lobster with eggs. Both plates were mouth-watering!

I will certainly revisit Blue Water Grill on my next visit!

The Blue Water Grill and Soul Nights

I love the Blue Water Grill for a couple of reasons -- the food is excellent, but the real draw for me is the music that can be heard in the downstairs jazz room. One band in particular, a jazz combo called Soul Nights, is absoltely amazing. We love them so much that they even played at our wedding - they really made our party hop! The cool, smooth jazz they churn out at Blue Water is so soothing and refreshing. We'd go anywhere to hear them play, but seeing them at the Blue Water Grill is a special treat because we get to hear great sounds while eating incredible food - the whole thing is very indulgent.

A little on the food - I am partial to their roasted half chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. It's so well done and so delicious - I am getting hungry just thinking about it. Members of my family go for their seafood - grilled swordfish, grilled yellowfin tuna, lobster - they go crazy for it. They make awesome crabcakes and incredible steaks. Dessert is always terrific. They do everything well - from the appetizers and salads to the entrees and sides to dessert - they never miss. And, to top it all off, the service is excellent. We often get the same table (near the band) and therefore often have the same terrific waiter - the service is friendly and efficient and the staff is knowlegeable about the menu and how the food is prepared. You just can't miss here.

Blue Water Grill is located right on Union Square in an old bank building. It has terrific ambiance. There is also outside dining (weather permitting, although they do have heaters for chilly nights), and a cavernous dining room in the former bank's main room. Don't miss it, and say hi to Chris and Blake of Soul Nights!

Blue Water Grill & Jazz Restaurant

The selection of seafood at the Blue Water Grill astounded me. Salmon, Tuna, Mahi, Swordfish and more! They also have sushi and more varieties of oyster than I knew existed. For those who aren't seafood fans there's also a chicken and steak entree. I tried the Roasted Pacific Mahi Mahi with Lobster Mashed Potatoes in a Pinot Noir Sauce. Outstanding! My fiance had the Jumbo Ravioli with Shrimp, Scallops and Crab with Sundried Tomatoes and Wild Mushrooms. Heavenly! The food here tastes like it was caught fresh that morning and it's one of those places that invites you to linger and enjoy. The ambiance here is wonderful. Jazz music softly surrounds you as you enter. It brings you the feeling of being taken away from the hetic city. This is one of the more popular restaurants in New York and it can be tough to get a dinner reservation. We opted for a late lunch and had the place to ourselves and the full attention of the wait staff.

It was one of those rainy summer evenings. We arrived at Blue Water Grill, soaked and a little embarrassed about looking so disheveled (late for our reservation). But the hostess smiled and let us catch our breath before directing us to the downstairs Jazz Room. As we walked down the stairs and entered the dimly-lit room, we were greeted by another host who led us to our table, facing the jazz trio. When you make your reservation at Blue Water Grill, you can request to be seated in either the Main Room (the main floor dining room for quieter, power lunches and business meetings) or the Jazz Room (a more casual, romantic setting to enjoy an evening meal). For starters, we tried the lobster bisque soup which was deliciously creamy and the spider roll which was freshly prepared. The restaurant serves fresh seafood and they even have a selection of sushi you can choose from. For the main course, the seared, porcini-crusted tuna was very good. Not the best seared tuna I''ve tasted, but still fresh and tasty. But the Chilean Sea Bass over rich risotto was delicious and melted in your mouth. If you're like me and you have room for desert no matter what, order the warm chocolate cake. It will satisfy your chocolate craving for a while. Crusty on the ouside, but warm and melty on the inside, the cake also comes with a little side of cream that you pour in the middle. A decadent way to end an almost healthy dinner. Jazz, seafood, and warm chocolate cake on a rainy summer night. What more could you ask for?
