The food was wonderful! Although a little expensive, it was well worth it. We dined in the Crystal Room the ambience is what keeps people talking about this place long after they have returned home!!!

We opted for a late night supper in the The Crystal Room, overlooking the dancing and outside tables. $45.00 Prix Fixe Dinner Menu provides more than enough food. We should have skipped lunch! Can also go earlier to get a cheaper 'pre-theatre' menu. Many overlapping items for 10$ less.

Service was outstanding and views and memories are worth the splurge.

The first thing my wife told me when she found out we were going to New York was that she wanted to eat at Tavern on the Green. I must admit this was not one of my top priorities, and I actually thought the tavern was nothing but a big tourist trap.
Boy was I wrong.
Sure there were a lot of tourists there but there were also a lot of locals--many of them celebrating birthdays. Those people were easy to spot because of all the balloons tied to the tables and chairs. We arrived earlier than our reservation but we were promptly seated in the Crystal Room. What a room! It really has to be seen to be appreciated.
The brunch menu offered a wide selection of appetizers and entrees but being from the South, we appropriately chose the shrimp and grits with asparagus, wild mushrooms and lobster sauce. DELICIOUS!!!!! Both my wife and I agreed that if we had ordered an appetizer we would not have been able to finish our main course because the portions were so large. When you get a meal like this you really don't mind paying $24.00 a plate.

When we go back to New York City, we will definitely go back to Tavern on the Green.

Everyone who goes to New York must at least have a drink at Tavern on the Green. Probably not the best food, however, the atmosphere definitely makes up for it. Surrounded by sparkling lights year round, and it is especially beautiful at Christmas. Take a carriage ride through Central Park or to the Plaza for dessert or drinks. Simply a wonderful New York experience.

Pricing: We had brunch, no alcohol and bill was about $40. Assume that dinner with wine will be over $40 per person.

The restaurant is set in the middle of Central Park. It is huge. There are two large rooms: the one we were in was heavy with brass and wood walls and the other room was filled with crystal and tiffany chandeliers. In between the two was a large garden area where meals were also being served. We ordered a shrimp appetizer, eggs on crabcakes, and an omelette. Everything including the service was excellent. We had been told we had to go there once even if it was out of our normal price range. We were both glad we went.
