A BBQ restaurant featuring, as you might guess, KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce. The menu included any combination of meat dish you might want slathered in BBQ sauce - from ribs to steak to chicken wings and offered typical BBQ restaurant sides of coleslaw, fries, baked potatoes, and rolls.

I went with my brother and sister-in-law and ordered the Texas Spare Ribs. I ended up with BBQ sauce everywhere (a messy eater in general, I'm hopeless with ribs!), but it was worth it! We didn't make reservations, but we were eating in the middle of the afternoon; I'd imagine reservations would be recommended at busy times in the evenings and on weekends.

The service was fairly quick and the staff were friendly. It's a relaxed and casual place to eat a good, if messy, meal. Families and large groups seemed welcome, along with couples and the odd singleton.
It was a bit pricey for students or the unemployed, but the food was delicious. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a good BBQ restaurant.

We had excellent service from the top-notch wait staff. It's a carnivore's paradise with so many meats to pick from. We loved the barbeque chicken, sirloin steak, and ribs.

KC Masterpiece Barbecue

One of the unique experiences in dining is visiting the world-famous home of KC Masterpiece Barbeque. The city is famed for its barbeque style and the abundance of wonderful barbeque restaurants (over 90 restaurants in the city serve nothing but barbeque). KC Masterpiece is the most famous of these.

One of the first things that my wife and I noticed when we entered the restaurant was the attractive building, an inviting atmosphere that is clean, and the sense of being comfortable and aesthetically pleasing for every guest. We were seated by the hostess and waited only a few minutes before being helped by our waitress. For us, it is often difficult to choose from a menu that has so many different foods that we enjoys. So, my wife and I ordered the meal called "The Works!" This selection has enough food for two people, providing on one platter roasted chicken, beef burnt ends, spare ribs and pork. The food goes well with two side orders and some beer. Those who don't enjy barbeque can order sandwiches or salads. (but why go to this type of restaurant, if you don't want barbeque?) Ad=fter the meal we were offered the chance to eat one of the specialty desserts. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie looked good, so I ordered a serving of that for myself. It certainly added a lot to my overstuffed feeling when we left the restaurant.

This was a remarkable experience for me. The restaurants to which I had gone in the past served different styles of barbeque. This was our first time to enjoy the Kansas City style of barbeque. I know that we will return here on our next visit to the town.

KC Masterpiece Barbecue and Grill offers a good selection of barbecue choices that are suitable for either lunch or dinner. I recommend starting off with the smoked buffalo wings as an appetizer. The sauce is spicy and gets your taste buds ready for barbecue.

The specialties begin with ribs. One slab of ribs is more than enough for my wife and me, or I will order it for myself with plans for leftovers the next day. I also like their burnt ends, either the beef or the pork. If you cannot make up your mind, they offer a meal for four people that includes a sampling of chicken and ribs with two of the side dishes. There is also a rib pack for four people or a barbecue pit classic of burnt ends for four. If you have a large group, you an get the picnic pack for 10 (about $100) which includes the chicken, ribs, burn ends and various side dishes.

The sandwiches are also very good for either lunch or dinner. The sandwich comes with two side dishes which makes for more than plenty for a meal.

You can call ahead for carryout and take this wonderful food on picnics or for other events. The barbecue sauce is pretty messy so it's not advisable to get carryout and eat in the car. We've gotten carryout the last four or five times we've eaten this barbeque. The call ahead ordering has been super convenient and the food is always ready, but still hot. It's great when we have company and want something good, but easy, to serve.

The restaurant is relatively easy to find. The intersectioning roads (I-435 and Metcalf Ave) are major roads in Kansas City. The restaurant is in the southeast corner, tucked behind American Bandstand. Drivers not familiar with the area need to watch for the correct turn lane so they don't end up on the highway entrance ramp.

Kansas City brags of its barbecue and KC Masterpiece certainly justifies the cause.

Located in the opulent Country Club Plaza section of downtown Kansas City, KC Masterpiece Barbecue is the home of the barbecue sauce of the same name. Having the same Spanish architecture on the oustide as the rest of the neighborhood, the spacious interior is definitely unique. With leather booths and a huge mural of celebrity diners, you're likely to feel a personal connection to this restaurant from the moment you step in the door. If you're visiting Kansas City, you're probably aware that the city is famous for its barbecue and this is certainly one restaurant that continues that fine tradition. With everything from barbecue sandwiches to plates piled high with barbecued beef or pork, there is something for everyone on this menu. I highly recommend the Burnt Ends! When the barbecue is cooked in a pit the outside becomes blackened or burnt and often contains the best flavor of any of the meat. At KC Masterpiece, they cut off those burnt ends, cube it, smother it in their own barbecue sauce and serve it piled high atop a slice of bread and serve it with two side items. The dirty rice and barbecue baked beans would be my favorite sides. If you have room for dessert, the menu looks fantastic with everything from chocolate fudge brownies to simple ice cream. Whether dining here for a fabulous meal with the family or visiting with business guests, KC Masterpiece is perfectly at home hosting either. After you eat, you're in a wonderful and beautiful part of the city to stroll around and take in the scenery.
