My Favourite Things about Manchester in Restuarant Sized Nutshell

This place is great, whether it be in the day relaxing with the papers or for an] evening meal. I myself have been a chef for a good proportion of my life and can appreciate the good value of what I consider to be one of this city's more interesting menus. No where else are people going to fine pheasant, venison and some of the more exciting seafoods for such a reasonable price. I have rarely been disappointed in terms of quality where the food is concerned.
The atmosphere is never pretentious, often an unfortunate feature of the more trendy places. Solomon's is relaxed whilst still capturing some of the artisty excitement of Manchester.
I'd defiantly recommend soaking up the atmosphere.

We are often found in Solomon Grundys at weekend, it is great for a bite to eat, a leisurely coffee or an evening of drinking. Great selection at the bar and the menu is simple but the food has never disappointed yet. There is always a good choice for hungry vegetarians too!
Over-hyped and Drab, Bad Food Too

A place like Withington deserves better than what Solomons has to offer. I understand what they are trying to do and believe that bar/restaurants along a similar theme are much needed in the area. However the problem with Solomons is execution. The staff look disinterested, the menu is unimaginative and you know a lot of the food is pre-prepared, the food is over-priced, so is the beer and the toilets leave a stench that covers the back half of the restaurant. What is good is the decor but even that needs a good dust.
If ever there was a case of 'location location location' then this would be it as the meat in this sandwich is clearly past it's sell by date and the bread is stale.
Verdict: Give it a wide berth.
