We decided to take a 25-minute walk to the gates entering the resort. Outside to the right there was a restaurant, a pizza place, and a store. Beside the restaurant, there was a kids’ playground that had swings, a trampoline, and climbing structures. Inside was a huge avian cage with all sorts of birds. The dining was open air and with the music and the birds, you could barely hear the traffic.
I had forgotten my translation book and was relying on my small amount of Spanish. I ordered a dish that I thought was going to be shrimp (chipirones en su tinta). Well, it turned out to be baby squid served in their own ink. I am not a picky eater and I actually like squid; however, I would never order that again. It was edible and different, but not a repeat. My partner got a chicken and beef dish. They were cooked and served in separate leaves. He said his was delicious. It was worth the walk and very inexpensive.
On the walk back to the resort, we saw a mass exodus of workers, many on bikes or walking. There were five guys throwing a stick up into a tree trying to get mangos.
I heard that the pizza joint next to the La Granja was excellent too, but we didn’t get a chance to try there.
