Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse
From the outside, you might figure Humpy's to be a small tavern. When you walk in, you realize that looks are very deceiving. There is a large bar in the center of the room and booths on either side. Every available seat is occupied. A sign above the back door says "Crab Garden" so you head there.
The backyard is fenced in and picnic tables are scattered all around. There is a tent above your head, but there are some tables that are not as fortunate. You see a vacancy at one of them and you head for it.
The menu is on the table and the cuisine covers a wide variety. Crab Legs is the special! For $24 you can get a pound of them. No veggies, but who needs them. A chicken sandwich is $13. It is huge. It covers the whole platter.
The beer menu is fairly extensive - at least from the point of view of someone who doesn't drink beer. There must be 30 or them. Friends who are "in the know" says the list is a good one. The atmosphere is casual and loud. Very enjoyable for a casual evening with friends. This seems to be a "Cheers" kind of place - where everyone knows you and is friendly.
Our waiter suggested a restaurant - the Snow Goose - for breakfast because Humpy's doesn't serve until 10am on weekends. We can't make it due to timing issues with our schedules, but our friends vow to try it.
Humpy's also has the prerequisite T's that proclaim "I got crabs at Humpy's". The wearer must then explain that the name is a local nickname for the Pink Salmon and not something more. Good Luck!
