Joseph Alexanders

This restaurant is housed in an old terraced house overlooking the Brisbane River. Once you step inside, you will immediately relax—the ambiance is calm and sophisticated. The restaurant is small but definitely not pokey; the tables are beautifully laid-out, and before you know it, a waiter will be pouring you a glass of water. The menu is modern Australian with some Asian inspiration. Joseph Alexanders has an ever-changing menu, but when I went, I tried these delights: squid on a bed of Asian salad, duck spring rolls with a dipping sauce, and steak with vanilla jus. My companion had a tea-smoked duck and a wonderful snapper with Asian greens. Joseph Alexanders also has a permanent special: a two-course $38 lunch Monday to sate with a complimentary bottle of wine between two people. This is a bargain for the service, food, and ambience; $38 is well worth every cent. Joseph Alexanders manages to successfully walk the fine line between five-star fine dining and great, filling food at reasonable prices. Joseph Alexanders also has a great cocktail bar upstairs, and they make the best guava cocktails I’ve ever had! I recommend this place for a really nice date or a special occasion.
