Let me start of by saying that I am not a vegetarian - I like my meat. With that said, I really liked Radost FX's cafe (as well as the club). The portions here are really big and the atmosphere is REALLY cool. I enjoyed dinner at Radost, but they had the best breakfast/brunch. I ate brunch there many times on the weekends after a long night out. Go for the brunch, you won't be sorry!

Radost FX Cafe

Radost FX is actually a dance club that was just a few doors away from our hotel. The café is situated in the back of the club and is really more of a chill-out room, yet serves something quite rare in Prague - vegetarian food!! And considering it’s a dance club, the prices were great. Radost café is very trendy and funky, with a laid-back Middle Eastern feel with low tables, sequined cushions, and heavy curtains. The food had everything from Tex-Mex to Thai. Food was made fresh and not very expensive.

The night we were there, we ate from the after-hours’ menu that started at midnight and ran till 3am. The after-hours’ menu was big enough to have plenty of choices. I had the classic Popeye sandwich, which would have been quite easily enough for two. This spinach burger was packed with tzatziki, mushrooms, cheese, and couscous (about $7). It was perfect after a night on the town or for when a case of the munchies strikes.

Arrived out in Vinohrady to see the TV Tower, and on the way back into the city centre stopped off at this very popular vegetarian cafe. The deco, like at Dahab, is out of this world. Lots of sofas and low tables, with light mostly by candle and soft wall lighting. The only why to describe it is a cross between an Arabic hippy tent and a white tiger!!! (Check the pics!!) The music and atmosphere was chilled, the service good and the food fantastic! All kinds of potato and omelet dishes, as well as couscous and bagels, etc. To get to it off the main road, take a short passage past the nightclub and art gallery. Go here!!

Radost FX

Radost FX is a mostly vegetarian, fairly cosmopolitan restaurant and cafe combined with a lounge and disco downstairs. It's a lushly eclectic mix of exotic fabrics, both antique and modern influences, cushy booths, and art hanging everywhere.

Though I did attempt to acclimate my tastebuds to Czech food, much of the usual menu items just didn't sit right with me (largely meat and potato-type fare). I'm not a vegetarian, but am also not a real red-meat eater. So, Radost became a nice haven to retreat to for coffee & a good book, just a snack, or on weekends for my favorite meal, brunch. The menu is a delicious melange of dishes from around the globe. They offer tasty salads, light snacks, stir-frys, pasta dishes, and specials that all help to soothe the homesick tastebuds.

Open every day from 11:00am til the wee hours. Brunch served Saturday and Sunday, and an Italian menu Sunday evenings.

When you get tired of heavy meat and dumpling dishes, head to Radost for some vegetarian food. Reminiscent of a NYC/Greenwich Village hang out, Radost serves good veggie food (both healthy and greasy). We went there twice, since our hotel (Residence Select - see accommodation entry) was right around the corner. First, after our short nap on our first day, we stopped there for a bite before seeing the sights of the old town. Since it was my first meal in Prague, I didn't question the waitress when the veggie burger I ordered appeared in the form of a pizza. I thought - hey, maybe this is what a Czech burger looks like. Imagine my embarrassment when the waitress came back and said she gave us food that belonged to another table (and I had already had three or four bites!) Fortunately, the couple at the other table didn't mind - they had filled up on appetizers and didn't want their main courses anymore. The pizza was fair - I would have preferred the veggie burger, I think.

The second time we went was after (or in the middle of) a night of pub/bar hopping. The kitchen at Radost is open until 4AM, which comes in handy after/during a night of drinking.
