This is a great place to try traditional Czech dishes. It is frequented by locals, but menus in English are also available. Good beer and tasty food. We tried traditional beers, if you feel adventurous you can order beer of unique flavors from coffee to sour cherry. They also serve specialty champagne beer and good unfiltered wheat beer. Through the clear glass in the dining room you can see where the beer is brewed, and the decor of the place displays old kitchen utensils, beer mugs, and antique items. Since this bar is very popular among the locals, it is a good place for people watching and a getting a feel for a real Czech everyday life. Go there for lunch.

Last time we visited here - we were but drinking. This time we decided to eat here too - and see if it lived up to the beer!

Which it did! The beer is still fabulous too! We ate here for Thursday lunch - and though not full, it wasn't empty either. The whole place was just as I remembered it - and I followed my own mental note made then to sit in the front bar where you can see some of the brewing process, rather than in the slightly more impersonal back room. The staff were efficient and friendly enough, just as before.

We tried both the light and dark lager - the dark lager was the best beer we had throughout the trip. (.5l for 31,50 Czk). We also tried the sour cherry beer, the coffee beer, and my favourite - the beer champagne! Weird concept, but only 4% and quite light and floral - very yummy.

As for the food. Well, the kids shared "beer food" - a grilled sausage, some smoked ham, and some beer cheese. Hubby had the Venison Ragour (145Czk) and I had the Salat Neptun (95 Czk). We shared desserts - a yoghurt fruit concotion, and a crepe with (naturally) beer jam - a big hit with youngest.

It was all good - not TOO huge - and the whole bill came to 705,50 Czk - extremely good value. Definitely worth going out of the way for - and my favourite of the Prague breweries by far.

I have to say that we didn't eat here; we just drank, as this place brews its own range of beers, from the standard to the banana! You walk into the smell of brewing beer--yum. There's even a CAMRA certificate from their trip there last year, which was amusing. They make several different beers--I tried the sour-cherry beer and the banana beer; the best was their dark beer, which my parents had.

There's two sections to this place--the front bar, into which you enter, and a back room, which seems to have space when the front bar is full... but then you're a little out of the main atmosphere and away from all the brewing gear. So next time, I think I'd try and stay in the front bar.

This great restaurant and brewery has delicious Czech fare at low prices. It must have been recommended in some travel book, because I do remember seeking it out. It's in the New Town, not far from the river or the National Theatre. Definitely worth a few steps out of your way for a great meal!

The place was crowded when we arrived, although we were seemingly the only tourists there (a great sign for me!) We had to wait a few minutes before we were seated at a long table with some men who were just finishing up. After another few minutes, a table for two opened up, and my antisocial friend asked if we could be seated there - the staff were happy to oblige.

We immediately ordered beer, which was delicious and wonderfully chilled. We ordered typical Czech dishes - stroganoff and goulash - and everything was excellently prepared and tasty. The dishes may not sound too exciting, but they were far greater than anything we had anywhere else. It seemed we had found the best kept secret in Prague! Though the place may not be a secret anymore, it's definitely worth a visit!
