The only reason I registered for this site was so that I could ensure that there is at least one accurate review for this wonderful Providence restaurant. I have dined here quite a few times, for lunch and dinner, when it was empty and when completely packed with crowds of diners waiting outside the front door. The former is far more common in this minuscule—approximately 24-seat—establishment. I have found the service to be invariably friendly and accommodating. On to the food: of all the Thai restaurants I have tried in the United States, the tom yum goong at Sawaddee remains my favorite. Its flavors of chili, basil, and lemongrass are wonderfully balanced. The spring rolls are also a solid selection, as is the tod mun pla. Every entree I've tried here has come out looking and smelling wonderfully fresh, and following those favorable impressions, the tastes and textures have never disappointed. Personal favorite dish: the basil and chili with mixed seafood—the balance between heat and the uniquely fresh flavors of well-prepared Thai food are blended expertly. As mentioned above, the restaurant is tiny, so if you're planning on going on a Friday or Saturday night, you're better off getting takeout, unless you don't mind waiting a little while for a table. I would not suggest going here with more than 4 people, it's better to keep it to you and one other worthy person. I've never tried to make a reservation, so I don't know if they accept them or not. I have heard that they will seat larger groups given appropriate notice. If they do, and you're trying to go on a weekend night, it would be worth the effort.
Appetizers are under $10; entrees are mostly $7-$15, if i recall correctly.
Sawaddee is in the midst of a residential neighborhood of mainly Brown University students and faculty, so parking is primarily on the street. Be willing to walk a few blocks if you're driving. I believe the RIPTA Fox Point trolley passes right by the restaurant; it's been a couple of years since I regularly used the trolleys so I'm not sure if that's still accurate. After dinner, work off some of that pad thai by walking down to Wickenden St. for some coffee.

My wife took me here for our anniversary. It was our second visit to the restaurant. We ordered the chicken wing appetizer and asked that we have it before the meal. About 15 minutes later the waitress came over to our table and asked if we minded getting the main course (Pad Thai) first because it takes a long time to cook the wings. We said no, we don't want our appetizer during our meal or for dessert. We also asked that they not let the meal sit while we ate the appetizer. Apparently it is not allowed to have your appetizer first here. We got the meal after the appetizer alright. Unfortunately it was cold and dried out. No one asked us how we were doing or how our meal was. Instead, they ignored us until it was time to pay for the meal. And oh, when we complained about the poor service their English suddenly became poor. Zero for customer service here. I wouldn't recommend Sawaddee to anyone, ever.
