Our original dinner plans included a visit to Historic Laclede’s Landing. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Laclede’s Landing is a great place to visit. Walking the old, red brick streets takes you back in time. Laclede’s Landing is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the Gateway Arch.
Laclede’s Landing is filled with a variety of dining and entertainment choices. The kids had their hearts set on The Old Spaghetti Factory. We got there about 6:30pm on a Saturday evening. As soon as we opened the door, we knew there was a problem. The place was packed. We asked about the wait and were told it would be about 1 1/2 hours. With four hungry kids, there was no way we could wait. There were several other choices, but most seemed to be catering to an adult crowd. There were lines out of every door. Our search ended once the kids saw Planet Hollywood.
From the time we entered Planet Hollywood, I knew we were in trouble. There was no wait. There were six of us, two adults and four kids. We were seated at a table with only five chairs. I asked two employees for a sixth chair, but it never arrived. We ended up squeezing a couple of the kids together. The menu at Planet Hollywood is pretty limited. I had the steak sandwich. The steak was thinly sliced, but it was very tough and the au jus was cold. I don’t think anyone enjoyed the food.
If you could simply walk around and look at all of the movie memorabilia, Planet Hollywood would be a nice museum. As a restaurant, it needs a lot of work. I recommend going to Lacelede’s Landing, but avoid Planet Hollywood.
