Zozo's

The first night we were in the Virgin Islands, we ate dinner at Zozo's. This is one of my brother's favorite restaurants on St. John, and we were celebrating before his wedding. We were part of a rather large group, so reservations were made ahead of time. Arriving just a few minutes early, we congregated at the bar while our tables were made ready. Night had fallen, so the spectacular view of the ocean was reduced to the sight of twinkling lights across the waters in St. Thomas.

What was the food like? We had just come from a small cocktail reception, so I was not exceptionally hungry. Still, the Italian/seafood menu was chocked full of tempting choices. In addition to several specials, the regular menu includes lobster, sea bass, pork tenderloin, scallops, and steak. My cousin opted for a tuna dish that he said was excellent. With a much smaller appetite, I chose the lobster mezalune for my meal. This was delicious. And the perfect portion for me. We complimented all this with a bottle of Schaffer wine. Wonderful!

Bottom line? The service was spectacular, especially for our large group. The food couldn't have been better. While I didn't see Kenny Chesney grabbing a bite, I've been told this country music star also likes meals at Zozo's. Whether or not he shows up, I would recommend this place for a couple out for a fine dining (yet not stuffy) experience. We certainly enjoyed the meal we had here.

Zo Zo

Zo-Zo''s was my favorite restaurant in St. John. It is famous for its seafood, lamb, and steaks. Plus it has a very good wine list (and some great cocktails if you like something a little more fruity--the pina coladas were great). As is customary in St. John, the restaurant is open air and provides a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. There is a beautiful view of the ocean and St. Thomas in the distance while you dine. But make sure you arrive a little bit early so that you can go upstairs to the bar. The view is even more incredible. I couldn’t believe the difference only one floor made.

As for the food, it was amazing. We started with a couple of bottles of wine and couldn’t get enough of the bread with olive oil and cracked pepper. We then got a few appetizers that I wholeheartedly recommend (the baby octopus with spicy seasoning and calamari were superb). The calamari was very large and had very little crust. It was perfectly prepared. With a tough act to follow, the entrees didn’t disappoint. Everyone tried something different so I had the pleasure of tasting many of the dishes. The pasta dishes were all excellent and full of flavor. The shrimp dish included some of the largest (and tastiest) shrimp I have ever seen. The filet was exceptional and the sea bass was like butter.

Zo Zo is a little fancier than a couple of the other places I ate, but everyone was very friendly. The waitress and waiter provided great recommendations and was readily available when we needed something. I never felt rushed and we had a long, enjoyable meal full of conversation, great food, and lots of alcohol. I recommend Zo Zo if you want to go to a nice place, but in a relaxed atmosphere.

Very good Italian food served with a Caribbean twist. They have great views from the bar and restaurant, I would recommend going near sunset and sit in the bar first since it is upstairs. The view is one of the best in St. John. Menu has lots of seafood.

This is a fantastic restaurant and comes highly recommended. I went with several friends and everyone had a great meal.

The staff is very friendly and is happy to recommend popular favourites. I had crab cake for the starter and mediterranean style red sanpper for my entree. The food was rich but had wonderful flavours. Proabbly some of the best food I had during my stay.

The food here was fantastic...I had lobster ravioli - it was delicious. They have a small bar here, too - which had a TV - so were were able to see some TV (since Caneel Bay doesn't have TV or phones) so it was nice to see some!
