We heard so much about Skinny Legs, we had to make the trek to the other side of the island to try it out. If you don't mind mosquito's biting you while you are eating mediocre food check it out! I would pass on this one.

Skinny Legs Bar and Restaurant

About halfway into our vacation, my husband started to get a bit antsy for some American bar food. He was living the Jimmy Buffet life of beaches, sunshine and not having a care in the world but he needed some Jimmy Buffet company too.

Enter Skinny Legs. One of the restaurants our friends recommended was this hole-in-the-wall shack clear across the island on the east side. To get there, take Northshore Road to Center Line Road going toward Coral Bay. When you get to the intersection of Center Line (Hwy 10) and Hwy 107, keep going on Hwy 10. Skinny Legs is on the right as you enter town. Park in the dirt & grass lot to the right of the shack and find you way into the restaurant. The outside is decorated with old signs and whimsical memorabilia.

At it turned out, my husband really liked Skinny Legs. With a rickety bar, Skinny Legs had all of the familiar and comfortable American staples on their menu. My husband ordered the classic GTO sandwich and I had an even more classic cheeseburger. Prices hovered around $7 - $10. I felt the prices were too high for the food that was not as good as a basic coffee shop but the Jimmy Buffet atmosphere satiated my husband’s need. Rowdy Americans sat in every corner. My suggestion would be to go for the bar, where it seemed as if they had a great selection of drinks. Orders come with chips, no fries. For the two of us, we paid $18.00.

Dress code is nonexistent. Go wrapped in a towel if you must. This place is so casual, I could have sworn I saw animals roaming around the open-air restaurant. We’re big fans of letting dogs in restaurants so Skinny Legs did the critters justice. The main dining area overlooks the water, which facilitates a wonderful breeze to cool off diners.

For more information, Skinny Legs’ phone number is (340) 779-4982 and website is www.skinnylegs.com. The most helpful thing about the place was an Internet station next to the restaurant to check your email.

Skinny Legs

Skinny Legs restaurant is an outdoor shack just past the fork in the road that takes you to Coral Bay Road from Centerline Road. There are also several boutiques around it, so don’t be fooled by all the T-shirts hanging out front - just keep walking toward the back. We went there for lunch after our horseback ride mostly because it was there and we were thirsty!

Skinny Legs is owned by two guys with, what else, skinny legs. They were quite busy for a Monday; lots of locals were there eating lunch, along with a few other tourists besides us. My husband and I both ordered the house specialty, grilled mahimahi sandwiches. They came with fries and were delicious. My only complaint was that the bartender was a little slow getting my ice-tea glass refilled. I should have just asked for a pitcher. As we ate, I noticed on the menu board that two other house specialties were New England clam chowder and Skinny’s chili. The cook was dishing up bowls of the stuff while we were there, but for the life of me I can’t imagine why anyone would want to eat such hot food on such a hot day. I guess it must have been good!

Judging by the large white screen and two rows of chairs off the back porch, I’m guessing Skinny’s had a movie night. They also have a website, but I think it may be a little out of date. It’s www.skinnylegs.com.

Would I recommend Skinny legs? Sure, but it is away from the action so to speak. It’s a good half-hour from Cruz Bay and the Westin Resort. Skinny’s is a popular hangout for boaters stopped in Coral Bay. If you have a car and are touring the island, it’s worth a stop.

The food is okay. It has decent burgers, salads, and sandwiches. The clientele, staff and people in the shops around Skinny Legs are relaxed and friendly.

It is called Skinny Legs because the two men that own it wear tube socks and have skinny legs. Apparently before it was called Skinny Legs it was called "Red Beard", because the proprietor had a red beard!

This bar has a really nice atmosphere. You can also play horseshoe out the back and there seem to be a few things to keep kids occupied.

Best burgers on the island. Skinny Legs is a bustling restaurant/bar type place that's pretty friendly. There isn't much in Coral Bay, so this is the hangout. There's always people there. Someone even offered to break my kneecaps here if my girlfriend's father wanted. Interesting characters...
