Great Indian Food at a Reasonable Price

Little India was something that I just stumbled upon while I was walking around Christchurch one day. Sitting on a street corner at 153 Gloucester Street, it had a lunch special when I was there that was hard to resist. A glance at the lunch menu told me that it was time to bypass my usual sub of the day and have some real food. I did not regret it.

The place was nearly empty when we were there, but it was a lunchtime in the middle of the week so that's no barometer of how busy this place gets during the usual restaurant rush hours. We were seated immediately though and the food came out really quick.

For a lunch menu, the options of offer were extremely impressive. Butter chicken, rougan josh, a range of baltis and kormas ... basically it was a full menu but all at a very reasonable price. The special they were running at the time was $9 for a select few dishes, but the rest of the lunch menu is so reasonable that you can basically take your pick and not feel the dent in your wallet afterwards.

We had a huge lunch that didn't break the bank. It was delicious and really substantial. I liked the way it was presented too, with all the dishes coming in separate copper bowls, making it very easy to share around and try a little of everything. It was all delivered very quickly too. The service in general was excellent - very attentive and prompt without being over the top.

There's a lot of eateries to choose from in Christchurch, but most of them are not cheap. This is an option that allows you to eat a proper meal in a nice restaurant without having to dip into the savings. I recommend it highly.
