A Press Gang is a gang of men that used to troll the drinking holes along the harbourfronts of sea towns, more or less kidnapping men and boys for service in the navy. Needless to say this isn't done anymore! The building the Press Gang restaurant is in was built over 200 years ago, spent quite a few years as the old Carlton Hotel and now houses bedsits and flats mainly rented to ex-service personel. On the Argyle Street level there is a little coffee shop/bakery that uses all organic ingredients and on the Prince Street side, you will find the Press Gang restaurant.
This is a more formal restaurant, fine dining and fine prices to match but a nice place for a special night out. Food is exquisitely prepared, with a good range of choices. Seafood is fresh, meat is likely organic, but there aren't too many few vegetarian choices available.
Popular place to celebrity-watch if there is anything being filmed locally or any special events on.
They specialize in scallops, salmon, lobster, duck, lamb, seafood,
They will also do a four course meal for two for $150.00 CAD, chef's choice, sort of like a surprise meal! They also have an extensive wine menu. This is a wonderful and cozy restaurant for a special night out.
