Description

This restaurant serves the most authentic Creole cuisine available in Caracas. From its colonial style building to an interior in perfect harmony with the facade, El Porton has always been the place for tourists who want to get to know the traditions that still remain in Caracas, including gastronomy. Apart from tourists, it also has a reputation for being a place for meetings of politicians and government officials.

The menu includes a wide range of dishes from Venezuelan cuisine, such as the national dish, pabellón, consisting of fried stringy beef, sliced ripe plantains, savoury black beans and white rice. Other items include oxtail soup, meat in all shapes and forms, caraotas negras or black beans, avocados and palmitos (hearts of palm). There is also an abundance of accompaniments, such as single cream (for spreading like butter), cheeses, arepitas fritas (fried cornmeal rolls) and all the extras that should be included on a menu with Venezuelan flavour. The average price for tourists, local folk and you is $30 per person. Add $3 for two beers or $1.50 for soft drinks.
