The setting is amazing. A narrow street away from the bustle of the tourist haunts, with leafy vines draping down to the tables, and atmospheric candles. It is intimate with 10 tables outside, and a few inside. Inside is air-conditioned and non-smoking (very unusual for Roma), but I would recommend outside due to the ambiance.

The waiting staff was very friendly, and all spoke good English but appreciated our attempts at Italian. About half the tables are usually filled with Italians couples and friends - always a good sign!

The wine list is huge (approx 400 bins). These start at about 14€ and rise to several hundred. Every time we go there we stick to the Zamo Merlot 1995, which is amazing and only 45€ (cheaper than the shops).

The food is always delicious, very well presented and one is never rushed. (We usually book for around 8.30pm, and never leave before midnight.

The essential starter is the Carpaccio d’oca affumicata con pesche. This is thinly sliced smoked goose with equally thinly sliced peaches on top. The combination is sublime. A must try!

All the pasta is homemade, and the fagiolini e broccoli (potatoes, green beans, and Roman broccoli) was superb. They also give you a side plate of your dining companions pasta as a 'taster'.

The main course of hot carpaccio of beef on a bed of forest mushrooms and truffle shavings was heaven. Indeed the only complaint would be perhaps too much truffle, which has a tendency to overpower the rest of the dish.

The desserts are all amazing, but the creme-de-la-creme has to be the chocolate mouse. An amazingly light dark chocolate mouse is completed with a thick layer of hot chocolate sauce on top. I am not doing it justice it is truly divine.

An average bill of the above for two people with water and one bottle of wine and espressos comes to about 120€ - worth every cent.

In summary, GO TO THIS RESTAURANT on your first night in Roma, I guarantee you'll go back (again, and again). Make sure you reserve a table outside. (A handy tip is to get the concierge at your hotel to phone for you). They accept most credit cards.
