Description: Nick and I had no particular plans for this evening except seeing Faster Pussycat. Nick’s parents told us Ybor City offered up plenty of dining options. When we arrived in Ybor, we went and located the club where Faster Pussycat would play. On the way we spotted the Acropolis Greek Tavern. Nick asked me if Greek was fine. I told him I was fine with anything except hotdogs, hamburgers, and pizza.
They have a very extensive menu here that features Greek food favorites. Start you meals out with 19 appetizers such as hummus, baba ghanouj (I just love saying that) or octopus. They offer 16 different salads including grape, ginger, tabbouleh, or salmon. They offer some amazing entries that include snapper, monsaka, dolmades, or the colorful sounding drunken quail. They have 8 wraps with options such as souvlaki, falafel, and buffalo chicken. 10 sandwiches give guests burgers, fish, patra, and kalamata. Everyday they have the soup of the day and Greek soup of the day.
Nick and I start out with spinach dip. But this isn’t your typical bar spinach dip. Instead of taco chips we get huge lavish bread that is delish all on it’s on. The bread is topped with white cheddar cheese and tirosalata. It was enough for Nick and I both and we shared it with some chickens that joined us! Nick gets a gyro that is filled with lamb and beef, tomatoes, onions, and comes with a tzatziki sauce. I get the Korfu chicken sandwich. My divine sandwich comes topped with red roasted peppers, kefalograviera cheese, and garlic dill aioli. I also get a Greek side salad. The food here is simply incredible. Everything is perfect and simply incredible. And the portions are huge. We left quite full.
They have 4 locations and we were at the Ybor City location. They have indoor and outdoor dining. If the weather is nice, then you really should dine outdoors. The tavern is located right in the main part of the city in a beautiful old building. The views here delightful. This is a lovely and historical city to just sit outside, eat some amazing food, and enjoy the views. Since 2001 locals and visitors alike have been enjoying the food and the views from this delightful place to dine.
They have a magnificent selection of desserts that range from $3-$5 and include several baklavas. They do have a full service bar here. They have a cigar and hookah bar. They have free wifi. Vegans/vegetarians have oodles of options to choose from. They do cater and this is a great place to bring a group. They do have entertainment including dancing and belly dancers. Even if you are here during the day like when we were her, we were treated to our wait staff roaming through the restaurant dancing. Then napkins were thrown about inside and plates we were broken all in Greek tradition! And quite fun!
There is limited parking near the restaurants on the side of the street. There are several free lots near the restaurant. We parked in one across the street which was free and only a short walk to the tavern.
