Description: We arrived at the Bistro Paragon on a clear, sunny July evening. The Bistro is set on the edge of an area set aside for a horse racetrack and inside the track, a 9-hole golf course. The race track was quiet but there looked to be a steady stream of golfers coming and going. Given that golf isn’t the nosiest of sports, the setting is quite serene and relaxed. The undulating green is dotted with shrubs and surrounded by trees. Opposite, skyscraper towers poke out of the treetops, giving a good sweep of the Frankfurt skyline.
Given the warm weather, the Bistro terrace was busy and the indoor restaurant area was deserted. We walked around trying to find a table outside and a member of staff quickly came to our rescue, seating us at a table with two friendly golfers enjoying giant glasses of wine.
You don’t have to be a member to stop and drink here and perhaps that’s one of the reasons why the bar had such a comfortable feel, a far cry from the elitist air that affects most golf clubs.
We ordered beers and an appropriately named ‘golfer’, which I discovered was a mixture of bitter lemon and grapefruit juice. It was incredibly refreshing and a great combination although I suspect the naming of the drink is local creation.
We only stopped for a couple of drinks although it looked like they served food too. Close to the Paragon is a small spectator stand for the horse racing and beside that, a hotel is under construction. It’s not particularly close to the city centre but if you’re passing by and it’s a nice evening the Bistro terrace definitely makes a good drink stop. The staff was also incredibly helpful and efficient which is another plus.
